Finally got my first PSA hockey card - Thanks John!

No big secret I don't like hockey much. My buddy John decided he would try to change my opinion and sent a nice PSA graded rookie card for free.

Thanks again John.

Yep, it came to me just like this. Didn't even know it was in the mailbox until this morning. image

  • That is greatness! If you really want to give hockey a shot, try the 90-91 OPC Premier. In my opinion, one of the all time greatest sets! Classic look and loaded with future HOFer RC's.

I don't think a card like that would change anyones mind, but if you ever consider it then collect pre-war or vintage hockey. Once you study the history you will be very surprised at how rich and great it really is. Forget the modern stuff, study Howie Morenz, Dit lapper, Newsy Lalonde, Eddie Shore, Georges Vezina, Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, etc. Whatever you choose to do, it's all about collecting what you like. I was a full-time baseball card collector and years ago I started to collect only hockey and I have no interest in going back to baseball. I think your friend made a great gesture and I never thought that anyone would send a card like that through the mail, but at least it got there in good shape. Good luck in your collecting future, I am slowly starting to add some non-sports cards into the collection. Cheers.

Man this set was so hot back in the day... I remember going to the Mall of America in Minneapolis, and the card shop there had one box of these, $7 a pack! I decided what the heck and bought one... pulled the Federov and the Roy. I think at this time the Federov was going for about $60 and the Roy was around $15. I sold both for around that and bought more Ripken's image

Nice!! Who needs PWE's anyway image. I wasn't even sure it would get to you. I figured they would either not send it or someone would think it was valuable and snatch it up.
  • It is valuable. It is my first. The box I got from Roger is 1989 Topps. Apperantly it may actually be worth the trouble to bust the box and sub the stars and rookies. Too bad I don't know who they are.

89 topps has some nice stars and rc's in that set. They are very condition sensitive from that year sort of like 86 topps baseball. I have opened many boxes trying to pull a Joe Sakic psa 10.

I would be interested in a nicely centered Brian Leetch
without spots. Corners don't bother me too much.
