new nearmintcards.com home page

Hi all,

I spent some time this week updating the home page of nearmintcards.com, my vintage football card sales site. If you collect vintage football, take a look. I also recently added the ability to search for cards by college. I know a handful of collectors who collect cards of players from their school--anyone here do that?

The home page is a little dressier than it was, and hopefully it's still easy to navigate. It's evolved a bit from 2002, when I started my online business. Here is the original, 2002 version of the page, courtesy of the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

Thanks, Mark. All I can say is that it's a good thing I have a patient wife.
  • Saw the updated page Mike. Honestly, I liked the old style. You do get a thumbs upimage for at least updating your website and keeping it fresh.

Uh-oh, I hope this isn't like New Coke! Thanks for being honest, Frank--negative feedback is actually more helpful than positive.

The old page is still around, at http://www.nearmintcards.com/oldhome/. What does everyone else think?

When I can search for players by religion, and or astrological sign, let me know. I collect cards of Jewish Pisces players. image

Seriously, great site Mike, I really dig how you can search by latest additions too, so i can make sure Im not missing out on anything.

Oh, I noticed there's not a "Seahawk" section on your team search, Im sure its just an oversite that will soon be remidied.....

I've been collecting players by college for years. It is always helpful when sellers give you that option when searching.

I checked out one of the colleges I collect on your site--found an error listing (wrong college listed). Do you wish for people to contact you and give you corrections? Or would that be "geeky overkill" on my part?
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

    MUCH improved!

The added white-space WILL increase readership by a BUNCH.

    ...................

    You might consider making the

    Show all sets...

    Show all teams....

    Show all colleges...

between 14 and 18 point type.

I would also make all first letters UP.

    Show All Sets...

    Show All Teams....

    Show All Colleges......

    ...................

I would also rotate the sets/teams/colleges/players
that show on the home page.

    Maybe even daily.

    ....................

If I landed there from a search, I would look around the site.

Thanks, everyone, for the constructive feedback. To answer a few points:

    - Seahawks? Maybe their cards are vintage by now, huh? When I get my first Seahawk card in, I'll let you pick the logo, Joe.

    - Yes, I definitely would like people to send corrections: teams, colleges, etc. No, I wouldn't call that geeky--you're talking to someone who put in all those searches, remember? (Funny story: someone once sent me a real nastygram because I had a player's college listed as Mississippi instead of Mississippi State. There is a difference, she said. For all I remember, it was wrong on the back of a card and I just copied from there.)

    - I'll play around with getting the "Show All" links to show up better. I think rotating the logos is a good idea, too. I'll come back to that when I get a little time.

    Thanks again!
