What's up with 1993 finest refractors?

I see these from time to time on ebay in psa slabs that sell for $500+ it could be any random player and they all seem to sell for high $$

Any background on the story of these cards? I'm boggled with the amount ot $ and attention these cards get....

    Over the last 2 years the market has dropped significantly on most of the stars...just the low pop lesser stars seem to sell for outrageous money these days.

    just curious... do the 93 refractors say refractor on the back?? i know some of the finest basketball from 94{i think} do not.. thanks ivan

    No the 1993 does not say refracter on the back as the later issues do.

    nope, only difference from the base card is the refractor finish on the front.

    As others have said, they do not...you don't see that until 1995.

    Are the 93 Refractors numbered on the back eg; 83/500? Also why the 93's and not any other year?

    My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009.     It was a revolutionary set in the hobby...a first of its kind and VERY rare in comparison to anything every produced...less than 300 each if I remember correctly.

    They aren't numbered.

    I think these cards where one of the first inserts that were limited to very small numbers compared to other cards. I believe that only 241 or 242 of each were produced. The packs were also some of the first that started selling for more than $5 per pack and at one point I think they sold for more than $25 per pack.
