The Standard Catalog lists the complete set in NM at $25 in sheet form, $20 for singles . . . though they have the wrong picture in the big book.

those cards are neat and if you look, you'll note that the majority of the player pictures were taken in Shea Stadium (both AL & NL) as Yankee Stadium was being refurbished at the time.

Neat. They look like something that was produced by SSPC. Assuming that these are 1976 issue like the magazine, I didn't see anything listed in the population report for these cards.

WoW. Thanks for the background on the cards. I just threw them up here for folks to enjoy. That's quite observant figuring out where the pics were taken. I never would've known that.

Zero in the pop report, eh? How tempting is that to be the first?!

I know the pictures aren't the clearest, but who can name most of the players?? I'd have to dig the mag out myself to ID a few of them...

Don Wilson was a pitcher with the Colts/Astros, right? Did he pass away around then??

This set is just coming alive the more I learn about it. Glad I started this post.

    Thanks all!

Here's a link to his bio. He did pass away in 1974. His final game was on my birthday that year...

I just pulled out my copy of the magazine...

Those cards were published by SSPC. In fact, the magazine was published by Mike Aronstein, who was one half of TCMA (along with IIRC, Tom Collier), and TCMA and SSPC were pretty much the same also IIRC. Also, the editor of the magazine was none other than collector extraordinaire and liberal gone crazy Keith Olbermann.

The 18 cards were included as the centerfold of the magazine to introduce the SSPC "Pure Card" set, which is the big set of 630 cards they released in 1976 that we're pretty much all familiar with. Get this, if you ordered the set before Dec 15, 1975, it cost you only $9.99. If you ordered after that, it still only cost you $12.99. In both cases, postage was an additional $1image

Now, as to the players, here they are:

Harry Parker, Jim Bibby, Mike Wallace
Jack McKeon, Sam McDowell, Gaylord Perry
Whitey Herzog, Ray Sadecki, Stan Bahnsen
Tony Muser, Yogi Berra, Preston Gomez
Fred Scherman, Willie Davis, Don Hopkins
Bob Oliver, Denny Doyle, Deron Johnson

Sweet Yogi. They need to stuff him and put him in the Smithsonian some day (preferably post-mortem). He's an American Treasure. Why didn't he ever get a talk show? They should just put him and Whitey Ford in a room with a tape player going and let them talk baseball as long as they can hold out. And don't forget the liquor!! Maybe they could seance in the Mick and Billy M. too.
Kiss me once, shame on you.
