sleeves in psa card holders

hello i just recently picked up a tom brady sp authentic rookie in psa 8. the card is in a sleeve like the beckett holders. is this common for psa to do this on some of their graded cards. i saw a mike schmidt rookie psa 7 that also has a sleeve incased with the card. any info would be great.

It's used when a card is a bit small for the slab.

Keeps it from getting damaged while rattling around in the holder ...

I wish they would have done that with my Crosby Young Guns PSA 10, it kinda wiggles around a bit in its case...

If all cards are a standard size, then shouldn't all (or none) cards get a sleeve?

I cracked a PSA slab that had a "sleeve" a while back, and it ended up just being a single sheet of thin plastic, not a "sleeve."

Yeah that's all it is, not a sleeve. It is usually placed behind the card although I have seen some on the front.
