ebay seller waxgold...

Anyone have any information on this seller... he selling lots of old packs...

I was trying to figure out if this guy is legit or not by searching recent buys of wax rappers and large lots - do you think waxgold and ToppsFleer231 are the same person? The ToppsFleer231 id has been very active in buying old rappers and common and poor condition star lots.

Example:

1968 Topps Wrapper

1968 Topps Pack

There are a few more of the same wrappers he bought are now for sale as packs....

    Good Day,
Even though it would be awesome to see this guy with a stay at a Crossbar Hotel. The thing that never ceases to amaze me is the sheer amount of Suckers out there. As PT Barnum said..."There's one born every minute"

Waxgold has bought TONS of vintage wrappers and is one of the more notorious pack factories. All his packs are garbage along with import-export, bbwax, et al...used to be that the resealers of years past like Trueman limited their wares to mid-range packs but these new resealers are much more brazen and will continue to flouirish as long as they can keep ripping off unsuspecting buyers and their FB shows that they are getting away with it...the experienced unopened collectors just avoid them all like the plague but there are many buyers without that knowledge to fill the void...and ebay doesn't appear to care one bit.

What's amazing is this guy just does not care... he's selling everything from 1979 Topps baseball to 1950's baseball packs! So it's possible to even get ripped off on the cheap stuff. My guess would be he is going to load up the cheap stuff to build up really good feedback with people reporting major hits.

He is already on fairly thin-ice with T&S.

Several of his listings were removed last week when
he was asking for paper payments.

He is a few policy violations away from a permanent vacation.

    .......

His listings have been complained of regarding "resealed packs."

I spoke to an acquaintance at T&S, and her correct response was "prove it."

Multiple complaints that link the wrapper-buyer/reseal-seller might
    get some action from EBAY.

    ..........

    The final solution:

A lawyer in MI needs to file an Unfair Business Practices complaint
    in MI.

    Defendants are wrapper-seller, wrapper-buyer, resealed-pack seller, AND EBAY/PayPal.

Plaintiff claims/proves to be a serious pack collector/investor whose
collection/inventory is being devalued due to the defamation of the
hobby/biznez caused by the bad acts of the Defendants.

ONLY scandalous RICO allegations will be enough to get EBAY to
stop the sale of the supplies the resealers use. They stopped the
sale of Tiffany and Coach wrappers and bags, but ONLY after TIF
and COH claimed that EBAY was a RICO monkey.

Lawsuits work with EBAY. It's really the ONLY thing they understand.

He is a few policy violations away from a permanent vacation.

The main problem with that scenario though is that even if he is banned he will resurface again within a few weeks with another ebay ID. BBwax has gone through at least 4-5 user names that I can recall, same with overtimecards. These guys are like a bad rash--as long as there is money to be made they will keep popping up.

THAT is why the ONLY fix is to force EBAY to ban
    the sale of empty wrappers.

    They did it with the designer fashion wrappers/bags;
they will do it for pack wrappers, IF they are forced to.

The scammers often get more clever over the years - based on his feedback I believe he is likely buying EXMT, or NM - OC/MC type cards, likely say doctoring the corners by trimming etc, and inserting those in the packs so the buyers busting them really believe the sealed pack was genuine, and that they just had "bad luck" with not getting any star cards worth anything...of course not realizing that "luck" had nothing to do with them receiving garbage for the price they paid.

And yes, if he's got a sucker, oh excuse me, customer that is buying a number of unopened packs from him, it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw this buyer a bone of say a trimmed or even a genuine OC 7 or 8 star card, just to entice this buyer to buy more - a clever con game. He could even raise the lure of the scam by throwing in an OC Clemente, say if the buyer lives in the Pittsburgh area...depending on the selling price, buyer, etc.

I don't collect unopened packs, so this isn't my expertise, but those two auctions do not look like the same wrapper. There are tiny little spots that are on different areas on the wrappers. If I had to make a decision, I'd say they are different. Of course, that doesn't mean it is a legit pack...

Maybe I'm missing something here ..... but where/what is the connection between Waxgold and ToppsFleer231?

The links to the wrappers are not the same wrappers (The wrapper end panels have different "send away" offers on them). I dug around a little bit, but I don't see a connection between the two user ID's, feedback, feedback numbers, etc.

I see where ToppsFleer231 has been buying up bunches of wrappers and card lots, but I don't see where Waxgold is connected to any of them.

To me, it looks more like Waxgold is just a collector selling off his run of wax packs? Basically a pack or two from each years issue, some older 50's and 60's vintage packs up to the late 70's / early 80's. Some are graded, some are raw. Some look nice, and some look funky (pretty much what you'd expect from someone that built a pack collection through eBay.)

Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that Waxgold was not getting unfairly roasted on here based upon the info that I saw. If you have any other links, or if I missed some information / evidence that connects them ... or that makes Waxgold look like a re-sealer, please post it.

I'm all for calling out the re-sealers when we find them. I just wanted to make sure that I'm missing whatever connection you all are seeing before I add his name to my list.

    Thanks,

    Mike

No offense, Mike, but resealers and pack factories like waxgold count on that kind of belief when they sell their "products."

Edit: The '68 wrapper posted above is not the same as the pack up for auction, but that doesn't mean these packs are legit, far from it, in fact...
