Anyone here collect cliché (splasher) medals?

I am really taking a liking to these pieces and was wondering what are the best reference texts, if there are any, to look at for a starting point.

I have found several informative websites but, they usually only touch on the history and methods used. Is there a reference or specific auction that catalogs different types and artists?

I may have one or two in my collection but, as yet, am still confused as to what they are exactly. Could you please convey the information for the two sites you know about so I could do some further reading? I'm pretty sure this type of stuff is sold all the time in German auctions but I need to be clear about them before pointing you in any direction. Thanks.

This is what I always understood them to be. Similar in appearance to galvanos and other trials but produced differently.

Try Paul Bosco. He's pretty well versed in all the oddities of numismatic medals. I've never heard of any references dedicated to such things, maybe there's an article or two somewhere, but I think your best source of info will be finding someone who can help with old auction catalogs.

Brown's British Historical Medals has some references to cliches of British medals in various metals. Re: BHM 577 "There is an obverse cliche in copper gilt in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery." I picked up the reverse cliche just because it was neat. I own others that are not mentioned.

There are also example of uniface embossed plates joined with a rim to create medals. Here's an example (the obverse of which turned up at auction as well.)

I have a couple Victoria cliches, and several galvanos. Harasha and rwyarmch displayed pieces are Galvanos and not cliches. Galvanos are an electrolic process and cliches are stamped and usually fully filled the back with lead or other metal to reinforce the thin layed stamped piece.
