GAI

Wow-great answers on my last post, good to know for the future. So here's another one for you: What percent of SMR Value does a GAI card hold on average? For example, if you paid $100 for a PSA 9 card, how much would a GAI 9 sell for typically?

  • Don't have an answer for your question but to inform those who are unaware or care... GAI is under either new ownership or just moved.

I think Mike will be a busy man...

Although Global Authority Inc. is a new brand it has retained the unmatched experience of authenticator Mike Baker. Mike has graded the most valuable cards in the industry and is the pioneer of card grading. He will approve every single card graded by Global Authority Inc.

At this point I'd probably stick a fork in them. Lots of stuff got thru the last few years that was bad, and they almost singlehandedly killed the unopened pack market by letting reseals and bogus cellos go thru. Not to mention trimmed and reglossed '55 Bowmans, and tons of other stuff. You really have to ask yourself why a seller would offer a GAI graded card, since it would most certainly sell for more in a SGC or PSA holder 3 grades lower.

That bad eh? What about the stuff they graded a few years ago when they were still legit?

Is that $100 PSA 9 card a late '60s or '70s HOFer, or a modern top rookie card? If the former, you'd be lucky to get $40 or $50 for it. If the latter, it may be $100.

  • Maybe I try GAI? $6.00 per card - 20 days.

PSA raise the price!!! $7.00 per card - 45 days.

April special is just about over. $4.50 per card is just awsome!!!!

OK, I hear you all not liking them, I can dig that. From a purely financial standpoint, what percent of PSA value do they hold and what years???
  • 30%-60% across the board , with the high end being modern rookie autos and highly sought after vintage. Any vintage packs graded with the new lables(white on label and another type) are suspect, so 25% but I wouldn't touch them. Now with the older grey labels, I'd put that at 60-80% of PSA comparable values. Of course, my estimates are based on nothing more than the air in front of me. image

I wish I knew what happened to Danny FIsher.....he was a freaking work of art.......con at its finest! Edited to add I can proudly say I DO NOT own any GAI cards, and when I see them at auctions, I run the other way.....I dont believe they are as worthless as PRO or CSA, but I definitely feel you arent getting your moneys worth with their product.

It's a sad tale. They could have done alot for the hobby.
Instead they turned their company into a nightmare. I still own a
few mid grade GAI T206's, but would never buy another.

  • Word was for a while they were having trouble paying that high rent while being located in a beach community of super expensive Orange county, Ca. Perhaps now that they are in Iowa they might be able to make their rent on time!!!

My personal experience on crackouts is better than what one might expect. I have personally have cracked out 6 GAI cards and sent in to PSA. 2 cards graded same. 4 cards actually were graded higher by PSA. One was a 52 GAI 5 Ray Boone that came back PSA 6.5. Maybe I've just been lucky.
