1987 Leaf Question?-Busted the Box Pretty Happy!

I just picked up a box of 1987 Leaf. Anything but the Maddux worth anything? I assume PSA 10's are tough, but does not look like anyone really collects them. Any experience or thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Thanks to the player set registries, Rickey Henderson, Carlton Fisk and Dale Murphy are the key non-rookies right now. Mark McGwire is still marketable in PSA 10 condition for the diehard McGwire fans but I don't think it is part of the basic set yet.

I just opened up 6 boxes over the past few months and I didn't even pull 1 McGwire in psa 9 condition. 10's are pretty hard to pull becuase of the black border and the centering.
  • I got a nice clean box from Roger on the BST board last month and it seemed every card in the box was dead centered with sharp corners except the 3 Maddux rookies I pulled. All of them were centered but all had one corner that showed alittle whitening.

With the lower number of cards in the set should I expect multiples? If I could pull a few well centered Maddux rookies I would be happy. I will post some scans if anything looks good. Threw an 1989 Pro Set II football in the order too. John you have corrupted me with this 80's wax stuff.

NICE!! That is one of my fav. rips. It offers a ton of bang for the buck. You will definitely pull multiples of many cards. You can usually get 85% of a set from 1 box. I have had boxes that have had 4 Maddux's and boxes that have had 0. For some reason I pulled a ton of Bonds rc's when I opened them. I think I pulled 13 Bonds, 10 Maddux and 8-9 McGwire’s and Bo Jacksons out of 6 boxes. I currently have 3 Maddux's that I subbed with the group sub. The last group sub that Bill set up I subbed two Maddux which got a psa 8 and 8.5. They seem to kill you if there is any white showing on the corners. I also had a Bo Jackson come back a 10 that I thought was no more than a psa 9.
  • If you can get a PSA 9/10 of Reggie Jackson, then that card alone would pay for the box/boxes. I would also be interested in buying it.

The Some really nice centering throughout the box and the Fisk apparently is pretty tough. Overall pretty happy with the box

Very nice. Any McGwires or Bonds that are nice? A psa 10 bonds still sells for some good $.

No Bonds in the box, but one McGwire. I have the Donruss in a 9 and I will have to compare. Probably not a 9. Got a nice Palmeiro and Bo Jackson though. Didn't get one Barry Sanders in my Pro Set box and all the other stars were OC. Really bad box of 89's
