Giveaway: In honor of our friend, newbiecollector ~ Winner is IloiloKano

I've had this book sitting around for a while. In the back of my mind I've always thought I'd send it to Wayne but life and other things forever pushed it to the back burner. I regret now being so lazy about it.

In his honor I'll give the book away to the winner of this giveaway.

All you have to do to enter is post a reply to this thread by midnight (pacific standard time) Sunday night/Monday morning. On Monday I'll toss the names into a hat and pick one out.

The book is in brand new condition, still sealed in it's original plastic covering. It's never once been opened, no idea how many pages it is but it's about an inch thick and it's hard cover. It was made by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Maritime Museum. The below quote is what's on the back of the book...

"Take an awe-inspiring journey into our seafaring past. From the simplicity of prehistoric craft to the romance of sail, from the drama of naval warfare to today's sophisticated ocean-going giants. This is the complete story of our greatest maritime adventures and technological achievements."

Thanks for the thoughts guys - I have this book and it is indeed a beautiful look at the history of ships with great color pictures and photos.
I am heartbroken about the loss of Wayne. We communicated a lot thru PM's and I will miss that.
I hope someone will get this book - maybe someone with a yougster who would enjoy the pictures and info.

    Thanks

    in memory of Newbie,

In that case, I'll put my name in. Coen would love the pictures and the fact that i have another boy on the way, due in Sept, he will enjoy when he gets older!

A very generous giveaway indeed. I've been reading the Aubrey/Maturin series the last year and a half or so (read it once, immediately started again), so I'm sure I'd enjoy this book. Thanks for the chance!

Well Huss, I'm an ex- US Navy Anti Submarine Warfare Specialist (Sonar Technician Surface).
  • Well, I am not ex Navy, nor am I an ex Marine. We prefer to be called former Marines, since the only ex Marines are those without honor! image

But put me in for the give away, and if I win, I'll give the book to a collegue who is a former FMF Navy Corpsman.image

  • My Vietnam Vet co-worker ('Doc' Gibson) will be pleased, and if I had not already posted that I would give it to him, then I would have happily suggested it for Old Shep. Thank you.

    edited to add this request...

Hussulo, would you send your excellent bookmark directly to Old Shep?
