IMO: From the mid 70s on back I would say the best cards would come out of the following packs in the following order:

Racks (negative is that they are very expensive)

Wax (negative is that from the 60s and older you usually lose at least 40% of the cards ... one from the gum and the other from the wax ... leaves you with 3 cards unless you get lucky)

Cello (Negative ... most of the cellos are wrapped pretty tight, which can effect the corners)
    STAY HEALTHY!

    Doug

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

    Rack-wax-cello
I just wanted to add that I've had my best luck with rack packs, but it seems like the top cards seem to suffer from surface issues. So if you are going for a rack pack with a star card on the front, be careful. The surface issues I'm referring to is indentations. Cellos are attractive because of the card count and no gum, but they suffer from corner issues. Wax packs are also good as long as you know they aren't resealed.
  • I agree with Dboneesq entirely with his reply. I have some '75 bb raks and the corners of the cards all look great--nice and sharp. I won't open them because I collect them for sentimental value. I have opened two '75 bb cellos and both paks rendered total junk. Every card in both cellos had damaged corners due to the cello being pulled so tight at the factory. However in 1980 Topps began wrapping their cellos much looser so cellos will do you fine since your looking at '80 & '83. By the way 5 years ago when I first decided to collect unopened material I contacted Steve Hart and asked him what was the most popular years from the 80's with collectors and he said '80 & '83--so you won't go wrong with these two years.

    I agree with BobS.

If you are only looking at 1980 and 83 Topps, I would stick with wax on the 1980. From my experience, the 1980 racks seem to sell for a higher price compared to 3 wax packs.
