WOW I didn't expect this reply. Edit w/ 2nd response.

So I win a couple of Celtics autos on Ebay last night and pay this morning.

Guy states in his auctions that he ships on Tuesday and Thursday only.

I drop him a message this morning asking if he will be shipping today or Tuesday. I full expect Tuesday unless maybe he has his own shop or something.
------------------------
Here is his reply:

you paid Today..... Thursday. i have been at work since 8am. i won't get home until after the PO is colsed. but i will make a special trip tomorrow just for you.

- go_steelers08
------------------------

We'll see if it happens. He has 6300+ FB with a 99.9% and DSR's of 4.9, 4.9, 4.7 & 4.7 so I would expect he would.

He'll get a repeat business from me if he does!!
-------------------------

I sent him a message that even if it was Tuesday I would be cool with it.

His 2nd Reply:
hello. i will be able to ship it tomorrow. i say Tuesday and Thursday just to be safe. i am on salary, so some weeks i put in 40 hours and other weeks i put in 60 hours. the only problem is that my post office doesn't open until 9am and it closes at 4:30pm.

------------------------------

I don't see the sarcasm in either post and I'm a cynicimage

Do you think that response is unusual?

Unless there is something out of the ordinary which prevents me from doing so, I usually ship my items the day that the PayPal payment clears or the following day, if the PO is already closed. I guess this helps to keep me at 100% and all 5s.

    Well yes I do.

He states in his auctions that he ships on Tuesday and Thursday.

Being as this is thursday and his 9-5 keeps him from going to the P.O. it would be silly of me to think it would ship before Tuesday.

I am fine with this because I understood this when I bid. Now if I had paid last night maybe a case could be made for mailing today!

Don't get me wrong, that was a very nice gesture on the Sellers part. Wouldn't it be great if all the sellers were like that? Unless it's stated in the auction otherwise, I see NO REASON why items should not be shipped within a few days after payment.

I just had a great customer experience on ebay recently.

I ordered some shoes that were time senstive on Friday. Fearing the worst, being a holiday weekend, I said I would pay more to get here in a hurry. The seller responded just an hour later and said not to worry he was going to the PO that afternoon. Shoes arrived promptly on Tuesday. Amazing transaction!

If I didn't receive the autos two weeks after next Tuesday or Thursday I might consider emailing him a question about when it shipped.

I took his response to be facetious and not given in a friendly way.

According to ebay definition, 4 stars is reasonable. I think shipping the next day is reasonable. To help sellers, they should give 4 stars a more negative definition. 4 stars will kill a DSR, but"reasonable" doesn't sound that bad.

    Me too.

All he needed to say was "this order will ship tuesday' thanks.

I think he's mailing it Tuesday... and he might "forget" and not mail it until next Thursday. I think he thought you were being pushy.
  • I have answered like that to a customer before, but I think I added "Would you like me to come to your house and mow your yard while I am out making your special trip"?

If it was Bill Russell and Larry Bird then I believe him. Danny Ainge and Robert Parish then NO.

    Good for you.
  • The second was much more sincere. Makes me think he was just joking around on the first one.

Yet with your exciting life you had time to reply. I feel honored.

In all seriousness how is your nephew doing?

But when was the package postmarked?

    "Here is his reply:
you paid Today..... Thursday. i have been at work since 8am. i won't get home until after the PO is colsed. but i will make a special trip tomorrow just for you."

I would also demand to see the postal receipt, as he did say he was making a special trip just for you. If there are other shipments on the receipt I would feel slighted that other less important packages were included in your own special trip.

    Glad you got your package!
I think the whole scenario of the first reply being sarcastic or not would make a great Seinfeld episode. I think it all hinders on the fact if an exclamation point was used.

Example: I will make a special trip just for you. (could be taken either way, sincere or sarcastic)

I will make a special trip just for you! (its go time baby)
