  I believe the issue is not counterfeits, but later reprints by the owner of Star.
  
  The best way to buy these is a factory sealed bagged set.
  
  Check the NBA logo on the back, that seems to be the best way to tell if it is a counterfeit.

  I think Lee (CDsNuts) knows but for some odd reason, he hasn't been seen much around these parts..

  So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

  If I remember correctly, one of the places to look is the Bulls logo on the front. The black circle and the "R" for the trademark should be solid under magnification, on the counterfit they are broken and have a dot pattern to them.

  The Star logo in the upper right is usually off as the counterfeiters rebuilt it. I am sure that scan is courtesy of BigBoydSportsCards who has and still is distributing massive amounts of counterfeits on ebay in broad daylight with no fear.

  Just a FYI Beckett is the only grading company that will authenticate and grade Star Company cards. I just sent a number of them to Beckett for authentication purposes. Not a great fan of Star Company amd figured grading and authenticating would be a great way to sell these cards

  I've been collecting Star Co 83-86 since around 86; the card looks okay to me. The dot pattern, Star '86 font, and Bulls logo all look okay. On the reverse of the card, it's not uncommon to have some of the red color bleed into the top and right (meaning going down where it says 117 Michael Jordan). Hard to tell from you picture if this bleeding exists.
