For those of you who might be too young to remember, baseball was in serious dire straits after the 1972 players strike (the first of many to come). Many teams in the league couldn't even draw a million fans in a season.

When "The Bird" came along, he gave baseball a much needed shot in the arm, brought people back to the parks, and quite honestly, I think he saved the game.

  • RIP Mark. "The Bird" was great for baseball. Fans in Michigan, and throughout the country will remember you. Sad news indeed.

I am very certain he would laugh at that.

Over the weekend, I watched his complete game against the Yankees from '76. He was something else.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

Wow, what terrible news to come home to. My prayers go out to his family, and may he rest in peace.
