10 years in the making - it's finally complete

I started putting this set together in 1999 buying a few lots here and there from Ebay. Some of the first things I did on Ebay were related to this set. The only time I ever got ripped off on Ebay was related to this set.

I could have finished it a long time ago. It got put to the side over and over and put completely away for a few years at a time but today the final card arrived in my mailbox.

I chose this set because it's my earliest memory of opening packs. I was 7 years old in 1973

I do still need 2 of the team checklists and need to replace 2 others but I don't count those yet

pretty nice feeling to have a complete set this old - next up is 1971. See you in 2019 image

    WTG ZEP! Congrats! Nice accomplishment!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Thanks guys. Nick gave me a big head start on the 71 set. With his cards and another large lot I bought, It shouldn't really be too long. Just need to stop ripping new stuff for a while and get to sorting them.

  • Congrats on finishing the set !! image

about a month ago Brian (f1ferrari) got 18 of the 27 I thought I still needed for me at a local show. That brought me down to 9 but when I was putting the ones he got me in my binder, I noticed 5 more missing that I had missed when making my list years ago. Hate when that happens.

Kinda funny it would be Carew. He's card #330 (halfway point of the set)

    Congratulations Mike!

Rather intended or not, I've always said that collecting sets is more like a marathon than a sprint.

Perhaps a gradual collecting endeavor may give ya more satisfaction?

I've been working on one set since 2004 and it's only 67 cards.

Good luck on the 71T set.

And, I hope I'm still around here in 10 yrs! image

Way to go zep! I know how you're feeling, because I just finished the same set last week when I picked up the Schmidt RC.

And today, I got the last card that I needed to finish my 69 OPC set that I've been working on for the last 3+ years - the Bench.

Congrats on finishing, Mike. I'm five cards away from finishing the '73 set - none are stars. I'll get it done someday!
  • Congrats!! I am 5 high number commons away from finishing my 73 set. I've had that 71 set going for years. I got it down to needing 41 cards consisting mostly of high numbers. I do need to get a nice Clemente for it though. Technically I've been working on both of these sets for 25 years or so as I acquired the majority of both at a antiques store around 83 or so. I did have my 10+ year break from collecting squeezed into that 25 year pace so I'd probably slim my completion down to 10 year too.

Let's face it Stone, the Old Judges don't come up on ebay everyday. If you only would have saved yours from when you were a kid, you'd have had that set completed years ago. In fact, I'll bet you probably had 2 or 3 of each.
