I found some very interesting items I would like to purchase, Although this sale would let a work in progress go it is possibly the only way I can afford it.

    I was actually think the opposite.. why not finish the set then sell. I have noticed a few 57 complete sets that were sold lately seem to be selling for more than the sum of their parts. I always thought that you would be leaving money on the table if you didn't piecemeal the set. Maybe I am crazy but I would sink the money for the remaining cards and try to sell complete. I would like to hear what others think about selling as a whole or breaking up.

    I just cant justify all the ebay fees, and listings, I see myself getting stuck with all these psa 7-8 commons. Dave, the last card, freese had just sold for 686 for a no name PSA 7 common! I can handle the clemente, and the others, even hoak is up on Levis site for 2.5x the last sale

    I say single it out! I'm just starting the set in 7 and would be interested in some! Not in the position to do a big dollar deal at this time, but could possibly do lots of 10-20 of the psa 7 commons at a time. If you consider it, please keep me in mind!

    Since one day I will probably sell my 55 set I will have the same problem sell it whole, individually or in sections. I would probably perfer selling it as a whole just to get it done with it. Though, I actually have bought quite a few common singles after I completed my set because the card that I bought was better centered than the card I had. I have also bought up to 10 cards at a time just to get 6-7 or seven cards that I wanted. I guess you have to be make a realistic judgement of what each option will give you in the end.

    One thing I've always wanted to see (and may try myself someday) is someone break out a completely graded vintage set into team sets and sell it that way.

    I nominate you Rip to do this first. Kind of a compromise between selling the set whole and selling each card individually. I think it would be very interesting to see, for example, the interest level in a fully graded 1955 Topps Dodgers Team Set.

    I think Andrewslin tried to sell a PSA 8 dodgers set and it didnt do too well as far as meeting reserve. The team set idea might be a way to go.

    There is a fine line between selling as a whole or breaking up. You know whatever you do you are damned if you do damned if you don't. I would never buy a complete set myself but would sell mine complete. Doesn't really make sense but I actually like building the sets and normally don't have 15-20K on stand by.

    Have you thought about an auction house? you could get the seller fee waived 100% guaranteed.

    That's a great idea, finish it and then put it up on an auction house for sell. What an accomplishment!
