Question about modern buyback cards

I've been in the market for a few of the current LA Dodgers rookie cards. For example I want to add a 2005 Bowman Russell Martin card with an auto to my collection and noticed there are 2006 Buyback cards available. From what I see there are several available that I would love to have, but are they still considered his rookie card and still considered to be 2005 which was the original year version. Any input would be helpful.

Card #'s are: (Also, if anyone could let me know how much these normally see for)
Bowman #135 Chrome w/Auto Serial # up to x/252
Bowman #135 Gold w/Auto Serial # up to x/33
Bowman #224 w/Auto Serial # up to x/96

if you get it slabbed it would show both years. But if you don't plan on slabbing it, I don't see whats wrong with the buyback.

That's a good point. I should have mentioned I will want to slab it which means I might get one of the regular issues if that's the case.

BTW, I love that Magic card you posted.

If your bidding on the 25/33 Good Luck !! I was but quit. I was trying to upgrade mine but decided to keep the 33/33 in my collection. Although it will grade less than my other. But I do own the 4/4 and 11/11 buybacks !

/33 $30-40 on average. Last one sold for $60. Bought by me 33/33 I have 2 of the /33 for sell if interested. One BGS 7.5 and the other @ BGS. (lesser grade) The 7.5 is on ebay and if wanted $40 shipped.

/252 Around $10. Seen some sell for close to $20 and some for a little over $5. Possibly all have smudged autos. Some worse than others. I have one for sale if interested. $10 shipped

If you want a "true" 2005 Bowman auto as the Originals were issued in 2006, he has the 2005 Sterling.

The only way I could see this as mattering is if you've got a registry set going. If that's the case, you should ask the registry admins whether buy-backs still count as the original card, or if they're treated as a "new" card.

The card is still an original.

Oh, and isn't Russ Martin's rookie card in the Bowman Chrome set, as opposed to the Bowman Chrome Draft set? If that's the case, you should be looking for one of these:

WTB: 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity: Ryan Jensen #/25
  • Original but "altered". I bet they would count it as 2006. If not, every comany that would issue buybacks, would lower the value of sets that really did have a auto from the Rookie year.

digicat- Yep, that's his 1st. I think in Originals those are the /96.

If anyone comes across a 2006 Bowman Originals Buyback of 2005 BDP Russ Martin /2 or a /11 I want it !
The /11 is listed in Beckett as /8 and /3. I think 8 are white jsy and 3 are either orange or dark blue. I need a non white.

Rich, You are right...That is a card I will definitely get and want, but I was wanting to get one of Russell's auto r/c's first. As far as registry, There really isn't a registry for the set I'm working on, but I was more interested if the modern collector's world considers the buy backs as RC's. I didn't want to look stupid. image

Thanks. It's been fun accumilating the cards. Expensive, time consuming, frustrating but worth it.

No problem on sharing. Anymore info needed lmk.

    If it's one I need....sorry. image

But I only collect the BDP so you should be fine. I need any BDP 1/1's (plates, jock tag cards) and always looking to upgrade or (as of yesterday) last hand numbered card for Originals.

I was just teasing you. At this point in my life, I can't justify putting out the bucks for 1/1's.....Hopefully one day I will. lol

Thanks again and I'm sure I will be picking your brain on some other cards.
