Crossover grade question

I just submitted a SGC graded card to PSA for crossover. The PSA website says it was graded MG: Minimum grade and assigned a cert number. I am assuming that I received the minimum grade that I was willing to accept?

wrong.. it means it did not make the min grade you requested

No. MG usually means that it did not get it.

The Cert number assigned is pretty much just an internal thing in this case.

Quite honestly this is disturbing to me. I just responded to a thread where the guy cracked it out and got EOT and everyone would say to review the card in the holder which I agree. BUT with the "mysterious" crossover service you have almost no luck at all. You generally have to crack it out. I've sent perfectly centered strong SGC 88's on crossover and I got the MG----are you ready for this? I'm about 1 or 2 for 15. Most people prefer PSA but will admit that SGC has some awesome cards in their holders and a 1 or 2 for 15 on well centered 88's in not reasonable at all. I think this service if not taken seriously by PSA should be done away with. Raw cards and reviews only. I'm not bashing PSA because they are my grader of choice but this has always been a sore subject with me.

  • It's a good way to throw your money away on grading fees and not get the grades you want. At least, this is my personal experience with it.

it take an act of congress to get PSA to crossover. I'm 4/4 for not getting the crossover. Never again for me. Waste of money.

I usually never have a problem on SGC crossovers. I have not submitted many - maybe 20 but I have only had one card rejected.

Just have to set your sights a little lower! Seriously though, were they same grade or were you trying to go higher?

What conclusions can anyone draw from this without knowing what you set as the MG?

    Nam812,
I sent in quality 88's that were centered with a minimum 8.

One example does not lead to a conclusion, but I successfully crossed a 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC 70 EX+ 5.5 to a 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 5.5, to wit:

Review and crossover are 2 different services.

Earlier today when I mentioned to someone else that they should have used the review service the card they cracked out was
    already in a PSA slab.

Getting PSA to crossover a card in another companies slab is difficult. In that case you are better off cracking and subbing.

    Good for you.
