Canon scanner - best settings?

I just purchased a new Canon scanner, and the results are less than spectacular. What are the optimum settings for the best-looking scans?

I'd love to know as well. I have one and while it is easy to use, I have been playing with the settings quite a bit and haven't produced anything close to what I could produce with my crappy beaten up HP.

i had a cannon for about 3 hours before i returned it. the images were crap. bought an HP Scanjet 4370 instead. much better images right out of the box. the HP Image Zone software also lets you save settings. so i have created forms for all the different PSA slabs that i have. just lay them on the scan bed, insert slab in cut out, enter the right saved settings and away i go. all i have to do is fine tune the crop lines. then its just repeat scans for all that i have to scan that day. makes life alot easier.

What is the model number of the scanner?
In my experience, scanners CIS technology rather than CCD technology are better at scanning PSA cards. FWIW.

The scanner in question is a PIXMA MP620B all-in-one. However, I also have a CanoScan 4400F that I think I would prefer to use. If you've got any suggestions for optimum settings on either, I'd appreciate the help.

I have a Canon CanoScan 4400F and I think it's great. I had a Canon all in one machine and the scans weren't as nice. Here's a scan from the 4400 with no "enhancing"

I just purchased the MP620 last week, and as I mentioned in the OP, I was less that pleased with scan results, particularly for PSA slabs. When my 4400F was working, I really liked the results. However, the power adaptor went bad, and after trying a generic one, the scanner wouldn't work properly. I'm guessing it wasn't getting the necessary power from the generic adaptor. Anyway, after about four months of me being lazy and not calling, I spoke with a nice lady at Canon - she's sending me a replacement at no charge; it should be here in about a week. Can't wait - I've been needing to scan some slabs and other stuff for a while.
