Any B & M's on my trip??

Planning on a trip April and May to do my other hobby -which is rock collecting. Will be traveling from NY south to Arkansas and then west to Arizona. My base will be around Leesburg. Any one know of any coin shops that I should stop at along the way? Love to buy cheap foreign lots for going over and cherry picking. Any suggestions more than welcome. Thanks.

If you go through Bisbee on the Arizona leg of the trip there is (was? I left summer '07) a nice coin store there, Bisbee Coin & Paper. Always had a great selection including Darkside stuff but takes some work to get a discount. I'll see if I can find his card to pass along contact info - he does a lot of shows and the shop isn't always open.

Thank you Spoon. I plan on stopping at all coin shops I found. Should be a lot of fun.

Ohhhhh rock collecting is one of my hobbies also. I don't get into it big time but when I go panning for gold I keep a lot of the "nifty" ones that I find. I also have a nice collection of rubies, amethyst, and other precious stones. If you are out in Arizona you should hit the Diamond fields!

Todd-I was aware of the diamond field in Arkansas, and plan on going there first. I was not aware of one in Arizona. Where is it?

  • I know one in Phoenix, AZ specializing in US-PI coins if you're interested. Also, Lyman Allen (author of a price guide to the same coinage) is in Virginia City, NV.

Drop me a PM if you do plan on going to southeast AZ, I spent 3 years in Sierra Vista / Ft Huachuca before coming up to the frozen north of NY and can offer recommendations depending on where you go.

Another Bisbee tip, avoid the Bisbee Grill, it's just an indie version of Applebees that most tourists stumble into first. Instead, one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to is there, forgot the name but it's right next to the Copper Queen hotel, can't miss it.
