Found pocket piece

I haven't seen my pocket piece in over a year. This week my daughter found it in a change tray buried under papers on the kitchen counter. I feel like the woman in Luke 25 who found her lost coin. There is much rejoicing!

This is what it looked like in December 2006 shortly after I bought it. It was a harshly cleaned EF at the time.

This is what it looks like now.

Cool! It's amazing how much metal was worn off the coin in 2 years.

Wow! And that was a year after being a pocket piece!!? That is a lot of wear! I have always wanted to keep a pocket piece for a long time, but everytime I do it seems that I give it away to some unsuspecting person who admires it. The last one was a cleaned Peace $ which I carried around for half of a year. I was doing business with a customer and he commented on the coin and why I kept it in my pocket, after explaining the concept to him he had it in his own pocket. Why did I give him a hunk of silver? Because, the moment felt right to allow someone to experience the same thing that I set out to do. I do not know if he still has it: I have not spoken to him in almost four years. I just may put another piece in my pocket, but this time something smaller than a crown-sized piece.image

I don't understand the biblical reference. Do you have a quote or link?

The OP has the scriptural reference wrong: it's Luke 15: 8-10, Jesus' parable of the lost coin:

    << <i>
    8.
"Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?

    9.
And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.'

    10.
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." >>

    It's actually in Lk. 15:8-10:

[8] Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
[9] And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
[10] Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
I never thought that growing old would happen so fast.

Sorry, I did mean Luke 15. image

I had another coin I intended to use as a pocket piece, but I misplaced it years ago. In a lot of Philippino coins I bought was a 1904-S peso with a huge scratch across it. It was worth only melt, but it looked really cool.

BTW, I've never seen a 1936 silver dollar in lower than EF grade before and decided to keep this one until it wore down to F-VF. One side effect of having it in my pocket day after day is that rubbing against the cotton lining makes it looked polished. I wonder if I should keep it in a leather puch with other silver coins.

Interesting thread! The differences between the 2006 pic and the 2009 pic are amazing.
