New Zealand 1942 One Dot 3d - What are current prices? Slab 'em or not?
So, Mom passed away and left a roll of New Zealand 1942 One Dot 3d coins. All are circulated in the F-XF range. I think there are 42 of them, but several are bent. I figure 33 or so will slab. I have come to realized the Krause is not necessarily a reliable price indicator for New Zealand coinage. So my questions are -
What are the current prices my fellow darkside collectors are seeing on circulated one dot 1942 3d's?
Do you see any "buy the plastic not the coin" premium for these coins if slabbed?
I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do with these. If they are something I should keep and let my kid dispose of them when she's an adult, maybe I just roll them back up? Maybe I slab 'em for her? Maybe I sell them now and just put the money into something better (whatever that might be - not stocks just now).
Any ideas fellas?

The market for NZ coins throughout the world is small, in comparison to other coins. The number you have could have a downwards effect on prices. As for slabbing: I am a European collector... Slabbing seems extremely foreign to me. In fact for one of my collecting interests slabbing is a real pain as it covers the coins 3rd side......the edge, in the case of MTTs the edge is extremely important in helping identify the origonating mint . I have friends who strongly recommend slabbing, but its not for me.
What's an MTT?
Welcome to the site.

I only have 1 coin to reference. In July 06 I won a raw '42 one-dot off ebay. Price was $61. Photos were decent. Heavy patina, but looked original with underlying luster. In hand, toning was somewhat unattractive (dark and uneven). Sent to NCS/NGC. Came back as a 61. Probably high EF/AU by European standards. Premier catalogue has very aggressive retail pricing IMHO. Rarely see a coin sell for those prices. I would estimate F-EF would go in the $25-75 range, but that's just a guess. Haven't followed sales of NZ predecimal in recent years. Good luck with your roll!
Seems it took me a while to find this forum. It looks interesting!
Even major varieties,such as the 1942 & 1958 'Broken Back' 1/-,for example,are extremely underpriced.
