Forum members in India... I have a question re: India post office gold coins...

If you would, could you post what the retail price of this set is at the post office?

    Not a clue!

There are a few members from India here, and (not to spam/promote another forum) I know there are a lot of knowledgeable Indian members who may be able to help with acquisitions on CoinTalk. Might try your question there if you draw a blank here.

What do these retail for? I have a friend who lives in India.

I have no idea but from the ads it appears they were marketed to be reasonably priced...what ever that means.

If you ask your friend and find out anything please post the information on price, etc. Thanks!

  • I've been informed by one of my Indian contacts here that they are only sold as gold bullion. They are not even legal tender coins, nor are they denominated.

As Aidan pointed out, they are sold close to the bullion rate. When these were launched, the 0.5 grams coin sold for an equivalent of around $10, 1g $20 and so on till 8g. These are basically bullion with little or no numismatic value since they are just distributed by the postal service and not produced by any government agency.
  • I've also been informed that they have been churned out at a private mint - the Valcambi Mint in Switzerland.
