Larger than a US Half Dollar and slightly smaller than a dollar.

Sounds like a one penny. It is either the 1797 or the 1800. Not worth anything in that condition. But, it has been used. There is no telling who's hands that coin has passed through.

That coin is from the 1797 Soho Mint 'Cartwheel' coinage.It is worth nothing as a coin,but it is worth something as scrap copper though.
