OT-Winter Storm

Well looks like the sleet has started for us here in NC... I look for the snow soon. Bad thing is we have had about 8 inches of rain already so add 6 inches or more of snow on top of that... man o man it is gonna be soggy for sometime... I do look forward to the snow since we haven't had a good accumulation in some time here. Darned global warming!!

This morning there was more snow on the ground in Birmingham, AL than there was in Buffalo. image

Weather stations aren't being real specific with amounts but they are guessing between 4 and 12 inches.... It wouldn't matter if it was a 1/2inch..... NC would still come to a grinding halt! The bad part about the timing of the storm is that it is hitting in the evening after the temps fall below freezing and then snowing over night. They say that from 6pm to 12am we will get 2 inches of snow an hour and then from 12am on it will be about an inch an hour.... Luckily with all the rain a lot of that isn't going to stick..

There is a difference... Michigan is used to this stuff.... Most moronic drivers in NC aren't... Luckily I spent several years on top of a mountain at school so it doesn't bother me but I know the havoc it will play with everyone else.

Yeah, I can finally see most of my yard again up here! image

But there really is no comparing. Back when I lived in Augusta, GA I remember that if there was so much as a heavy rain storm you'd hear sirens responding to an accident within 5 minutes.

We are suppose to be getting 15 inches of snow late tonight and through tomorrow oh joy!
  • We are suppose to get around 12" here in eastern NH. With more down near the coastal area. It is better then the 2 feet we got last Sunday night

We got a bunch this winter this will be like the 5th major snow event we've had not to mention the bad ice storm back in Dec. We did have temps for a few days of about 50 and it did some good melting
but up until then the cleared away snow was piled so high they were running out of places to put it all.

I know what you mean. In sunny Southern California just a couple weeks ago, we had hail! Yes, it was BB sized, but in all the time I have lived here (18 years) I have never seen it hail! Darned global warming!!image

Doogy must live in my neck of the woods, since tomorrow looks the same for us as well.

We got snowed in here in Watkinsville, GA. I tried to go somewhere around 3:00, but I was fishtailing on the road so bad that I couldn't get out of the neighborhood and I turned around.

It snowed all day (just stopped) and we got 5 inches here. Lost a few branches, but nothing bad. We did lose power for 3 hours around nightfall. I was wondering if we'd have it back before morning, but it finally came on again around 9:30. Overall, it was just really pretty, not much of an inconvenience. It's going to freeze solid tonight, though, so the roads will be a huge mess.
