Card looks altered?

I was about to bid on this Garvey but looks totally cut on the left side. Am I wrong? How can this be an 8?

wow! that upper left edge is ridiculous
  • I think part of it is the scanner but who knows, if it's got a bad scan. I only buy items I can return.

  • Common tilt. I think what your seeing is the curl (vending curl) in the holder.
  • those are 4 of the WORST PSA8's I have ever seen...but we've had that thread before...
  • I believe it's a distortion. Look at the right edge too. It's off a bit as well in nearly the same proportions the left edge is off but in the opposite direction.

BOTH the left and right top-corners have the SAME (reverse) bias.

It happened when the factory cut it. Could be part of why
    it's an 8.

Someone please tell me.....why are there exceptions to the condition of some cards because the flaws were caused by factory mistakes? (like the rough cut edges on those 70s OPCs for example)

When I pull a card fresh out of a brand new pack, and it has a dinged corner, PSA graders dont care that it came from the factory that way.

    Why the double standard?

    It's not, really.

"Mint" means how a mint card is SUPPOSED to look when it comes
    off the line.

Yeah, it's for this same reason why OPCs have 10s with fuzzy edges.

A dinged corner most likely came from packs being handled...

Handeling packs will not cause a rough cut...

Certain cards were made a certain way like the opc you mentioned but no cards that I'm aware were made to have dinged corners..

So you're telling me that you've never pulled a card, from a factory fresh box, packs never even moved, that has a dinged or chipped corner?

I have and I would not consider them mint, then again I wouldn't consider a factory
ruff cut one either, the difference is PSA accepts them within the written standards.

No, I never stood at the end of the production line and snagged a box out of production to open I usually have to get my cards from the store or online where thay have travelled across the country.. Heck I've never been in a card factory period, must be nice.

I think the reason PSA allows this on say OPC rough cuts is because well, That's just the way they were cut.. therefore thats the way they are supposed to be... A dinged corner on the other hand is not....

So when the OPC cards were being printed, those crafty Canadians purposely let the blades go dull to create the rough cuts?

    You got me, I'm sold.

Never said that... BUT the majority of them came out of the factory with the rough cut... Hence the reason when people see certain years of OPC with a smooth cut they think it's trimmed or sheet cut..

Are you telling me when topps produced 1996 topps every Kobe Bryant came out of the pack with dinged corners? I'm sold.

every single OPC doesnt have rough edges.

So when the ones that are perfect with the exception of rough edges get 10s, what will PSA gives the ones that actually are perfect? 11s?
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
IMO a card should not get a 10 and have a ruff cut, too bad people want PSA's opinion and not mine.

I don't know nor do I really care, Was just giving reason why PSA finds it acceptable to look past rough cuts on OPC but not dinged corners on a 87 topps Bo Jackson.
