Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

If I had the initials B.O. I wouldn't be signing my name with them.

Yes, about as much as a Jimmy Carter autograph.
  • They sure loved Robinson in Montreal, I say the French are less passionate than they are bandwagon jumpers, but they are passionate. The girls sure are image

I'm at a loss with Obama, he has hundreds of items for sale in the sports cards and memorabilia section??? Did the guy ever swing a bat in anger? image

    Ya I know he's a first.

    What a great card. image

If the economy were better, I'd say 5K easy. It's still possible that it might get that high, but I'd say something around 3. If the national press picks up on the card, then all bets are off (and it'll probably be bought by someone not willing to pay).

The Obama autos in '08 Series I or II went for something like $2-3K, so I would venture $3-4K?

It seems the seller could do a better job presenting multiple photos of the card, no!?

I would love to have the card and I don't even like autographs.
  • I do not think I would want my signature to read B O .

    To whom it may concern,

Due to circumstances beyond my control, The Topps Company has contact me and has requested that this auction be cancelled in order to remove the current Barack Obama autograph and replace it with a PSA certified Barack Obama autograph.

I wish to thank you for bidding on this auction and hope when I relist this card with the PSA Certificate you will bid again.

You can expect this card to be on E-Bay sometime Thursday, February 5, 2009.

    Thank you for your understanding.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me a mikeandlisa@comcast.net

    Sincerely,
    Mike Hawkins

did topps discover that autograph was not authentic?? I am not following what happened
  • storm888storm888 Posts: 11,701 ✭✭✭

TOPPS may have become convinced that there might be a "problem"
with the siggy. Or, maybe they just wanted to remove any doubt.

They really should make sure before they put the stuff out.

    I dunno.

  • I wonder what Topps has to do to get the seller to pull the listing. offer money? a few boxes of unopened material? his or her own baseball card?

    It prolly cost TOPPS nothing.

Maybe some "future consideration," most likely just "thanks."

TOPPS could destroy the value of the card, if the owner refused
to cooperate. All the owner would be entitled to is a "real" card, if
he litigated. TOPPS would deal with any negative publicity by
saying they were "acting out of an abundance of caution, and
in an effort to protect the integriity of the hobby they so love."

Both sigs looked fine to me. To the back of the class I must go.

Maybe the certified ones will bring a bit more money.

I was going to try to buy it, but I suspect my snipe would have
not made the cut. Now, we will never know.

It's a good crossover item that appeals to sports folks, history
folks, political folks, and folks involved in the civil rights issues.

It would have brought a good bit more than the last bid of $43C.

    It's certainly possible.

I know he got a high offer, but did not end the listing at that time.

    The thing would have brought at least 30% more, if it had continued;
I suspect a good bit more than that.

If he does not relist it soon, we will know.

The previous listing was very poorly made and did not pump the
item to its full retail potential. That was the only reason I thought
    about buying it.
