The kindness & generosity of people here amazes me! (Re: Neenish)

I think when some does something really special, he or she deserves recognition, here.

Now, the reason I'm posting a thread about this is because I'm singling-out the generosity of

Brian (known as Neenish) who was nice enough to lay out 175 bucks for jswieton, for a group rip of GOLF 2001 Upper Deck SP Hobby Boxes.

Now, let me see if I got the story right:

1. jswieton signed-up for a group rip.
2. he didn't pay.
3. claimed something like I cannot afford it, "my wife wouldn't let me do it"
4. then Neenish (Brian) stepped up to the plate and paid $175 for jswieton's unpaid for 2001 UD Golf SP Hobby Box.

Neenish (Brian), I do not know you, but I just wanted to highlight your "act of kindness" via this thread.

And I hear it all the time how unsolicited gifts (cards, etc.) are sent out to others here (i.e., ...just today I read about lawnmowerman sending out a very nice card for free to a fellow collector. That was cool Matt!). Plus many here showed just how kind they were, by opening-up their hearts and their wallets, by raising thousands for "Tim, the undead" image

As far as jswieton accepting $175 from Neenish, well that's another story, others will, I'm sure, talk to jswieton about that!

Thank you Neenish, again, your kindness and generosity is noted here!

rd

edit: LMK, if I got this story correct?

Well I hope that the items actually go to Neenish if he paid for it. Unless there is an arraingment of payment from jswieton to Neenish??

I believe you have it slightly wrong.

jswieton added this to the thread,

<< <i> I would love to get in on it but I have spent a ton of coin on cards the last few months. Lets see how fast if fills up. I may change my mind in a few days. >>

    Then jswieton added this post:

<< <i> I am going to sit this one out. I have spent way to much on cards this month. I think after the the group breaks I will take a breather for a few weeks. >>

    Then jswieton added this post:

<< <i> Man I keep stareing at this thing and I would love to get in on it. My wife just told me that I can'd spend another dollar on cards untill next month . If it wasn't for here I would be all over this one too. We are having a baby girl in June and she says my prioritys are in the wrong places now and that we are going to have to start to buy a crib and a stroller and many other things guys no nothing about It sucks growing up. It was nice when you were 28 and singe and had tons of disposble income to piss !! not any more i guess.

I really have a gut feeling that someone is going to pull the tiger auto too. That would really be awsome. >>

    One more post from jswieton:

<< <i> I just read over what I wrote and I sound like a complete D-bag. It totally came off the wrong way. I am thrilled and extremely excited to have a baby. My wife and I have been trying for about a year now. I was just trying to say that it was nice when you were younger (I am almost 30 now, and probably time to grow up) not having to worry about expenses and not thinking twice about spending cash on luxuries that aren't really needed. It is just funny what you spend money on once you get married. >>

Then a very kind and most generous post and offer from neenish/Brian in which jswieton gladly accepted.

    << <i> mike,

put jswieton's name down for a spot and I'll pay for it. It'll be my baby shower gift to him (guys get screwed at baby showers.) I had two for both of my daughters and I got squat! Not even a cool daddy tote bag.

    Brian >>

And jwwieton's reply to Brian / neenish

<< <i>I just had to read this twice, I don’t even know what to say. Your act of kindness has literally brought tears to my eyes. All I can say is WOW, thank you so much. The generosity of board members here is no less then amazing. You have literally made my week. Thank you very much!!
I will make a deal with you. If I happen to hit an auto I will put it up on eBay and we can split the final sale price. I am still in absolute shock and speechless. Thank you!!! >>

Not to be a trouble maker, but jsieton gladly accepted the free offer from above, but is still making card purchases. Look at this thread I reposted here that he started yesterday. I'm confused??

<< <i>I have decided to make a single thread that I can put all my rips under instead of creating a new thread every time.

I received my order today from BBCE. Most of it is junk, I bought it just to give me a chance to add a few cards to some sets I am building. I will be ripping these over the next week and will update with scans as I go. I guess Steve also packed an extra surprise in this order. I was wondering why there were holes in the box and it was making a purring soundimage

Thanks for the clarification bman..... It shows even more so the kindness and generosity that the OP noted at the thread's beginning.

And hats off to neenish for such a fine gesture.

bman90278 beat me to it, I knew it didn't go down like the OP said.

I've had dealings with John in the recent past, and it's been all positive. John seems like a good guy, and he's also very generous. It is MY OPINION that everyone has been kind of hard on him as of late. Cut him a little slack, he shouldn't be lumped into the same category as some of the other bad people that have been on here. I also don't want to be blasted for defending his character, and I'm really not in the mood for a debate, just take this as my opinion. Thanks.

    RD,

The focus should really just be on how generous Brian is and leave it at that.

    Mike
  • Thanks for the kind words rd. I'm just following the footsteps of randy, matt and countless others who turn back the clock and make this hobby enjoyable like when we were kids. Trading, helping each other out, etc. for the love of sports (yes, I'm including hockey and soccer when I say sports...).
I'm waiting for an invite from randy so we can have a CU bar-b-q at his bunker!!
I just like to "pay it forward" when I can. When I was about 8yrs old, an old collector at the local Rose Bowl swap meet gave me a 1957 Dodgers Sluggers card for free (yes it was beat up, but that was pure gold for an 8yr old). I still remember that kind gesture and try to do the same when I can.

Yes it does and that was very generous of Brian to make the purchase for another member with NO questions asked even though it could have been b.s. story.

It seems like this board is full of generous person's like Brian/neenish and they should all be very proud of themselves, even though the giving and making someone happy is probably thanks enough to them.

I was members of a forums back when I raced cars and road bicycles and I can tell you that no other forum can compare to what I've seen here in my short time.

Edited to add: Kudos to neenish for backing him up!
    Good for you.

Mike, I agree. I'm just sick and tired on how some "kindness and generosity" of folks seem to have strange results here lately.

But mostly, I agree, it is about Brian's act of kindness (but I just heard too much today about jswieton today, and felt I needed too release, somthing, gee, after the "Tim, the undead thing" here LOL!)...

No problem jeffcbay...I went and re-read my post and I thought it might have come across to strong and added the extra post in case anyone felt that way.

Also wondering, I've been checking out your Cal Ripken cards and your collection is incredible. I don't know if I've seen a list from you before in regards to cards you still need or any cards you are going to sell in the future. I won't be buying anytime soon, but always like looking for cards people need.

Thanks Brian! I'm trying to complete my Basic set right now, and all of the cards I need are in that large Group Sub, so soon I will be at 100%!! image

My next venture will be the Basic and Collectors Issue Set, which currently stands at 58.13% complete (out of 492 cards in the set). That one should be interesting! I already pulled about 50 cards from my raw collection that I will be subbing to help build that set. I finally figured it out that it's a little cheaper to sub your own instead of having bidding wars on ebay!

I also wanted to start a Brooks Robinson Basic Set, but I think that might be a little out of my reach right now. One thing at a time! For now, I'll stick with collecting the Robinson raws.

I do enjoy the random trades and generosity on here. When people pay it forward, it makes this place that much better. I try my best to do my part.

first off I did not sign up for the group break and back out. All I said was that I couldn't afford it right now and I wasn't going to sign up. The reason I said that is because I participate in all the group breaks. I never asked anyone to pay for anything. Neenish offered to buy it as a gift for a baby shower. I don't know what I did that was so wrong here.

I think that with some of the recent mishaps (erinstubby, CardsForMS, etc.) we are becoming jaded about people who accept others' generosity. Other than choosing to cheer for the Bears image, I don't see anything wrong with what John has done.

It was very generous of Brian to give the gift! He sets a great example around here.
  • Jswieton just has a wax addiction. I am personally a recovering wax addict myself so I understand. The addiction is similar to crack but more expensive and not as bad for your health in most circumstances.
  • Bill, I'm not sure about your health comment, some of that old gum has made me pretty sick.

I haven’t been buying a lot of cards. I had a credit from BBCE from the 1972 opc rip. Wow, some of you guys love to find controversy in everything. I will be happy to post scans of my wife's ultrasounds if you guys would like to see that too.

    Thanks,

John, That's the reason why I took the time to quote your posts to the golf thread. I think it clearly shows you didn't sign up for the thread until Brian offered to pay for you.

BTW John, when is your wife due and are you going to find out what the sex is?

That's very cool John. Our first baby was due on June 2 and was born on May 27 which was my late father's b-day. My wife had lots of ultrasounds at her Dr's office by both Dr's and they always said Girl. Then my wife had ultra sounds at the hospital at mid term and they said Girl. I would say we had at least 8 ultra sounds and all said girl. Of course my wife had 2 baby showers and got lots of girl stuff .....We ended up with our son Wyatt.

Something to seriously consider is going for a 4D ultrasound which is highly accurate and they can print nice portraits and give you video.

We elected to not do a 4D for our recent baby because of our finances, but we also elected to not know the sex of the baby....and I think waiting for the baby was born to find out was more special.
