1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings - I was close

I just put a bid of $17,000 for the 1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings card recently discovered. I was promptly outbid. At least I can tell my grandkids now that I was in the running for one of the best baseball cards in existence.

Here's my latest story on Bernice Gallego and the 1869 baseball card. She was on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show" last night and the card is up for auction currently.http://www.fresnobee.com/local/story/1142620.html You're getting this e-mail because many, many people wrote me about Bernice's story and (I'm sorry to say) I haven't written all of you back yet. I was out of town for almost two weeks when the story broke nationally. Nonetheless, many people asked for updates on the story. So here ya go. For those of you who e-mailed asking what a particular item you have is worth -- I must say that is not my area expertise. I'm just a newspaper reporter who found this story. I'd suggest going to your local card shop, collectibles store or doing some sleuthing on Google. Thanks for reading and writing. Mike

I hope she does well by the auction. After all the searching though discarded "treasures" she finally has one.

It's a cool story about how she found it and almost sold it for peanuts, but they could have done a little more in actually showing the card.
