Penny sleeves too big?

Has anyone else noticed that Ultra-Pro penny sleeves seem to have gotten bigger? I have a bunch of bags I bought over the years and it seems the 2-5/8 x 3-5/8 penny sleeves have now gotten 1/16 inch larger both directions. These no longer fit into 9 pocket pages. Its really annoying me.

And no, I am not using vintage or larger size sleeves.

I have been using the 2 5/8 x 3 5/8 from Ultra Pro and they seem to fit into the Ultra Pro pages. In case it helps I've been using the sleeves stock # RPSCG-3.

RPSCG-3 is what I have been using also.

Question, how critical is it to use penny sleeves in 9 pocket pages and what is the reasoning behind this? Aren't they archival safe on their own accord?

I tend to move them around lot. Plus, I am working on a 800 card set that is in penny sleeves now and will go into a binder once I am closer to done.

It's probably no big deal. However, I was out of cards for many years and was told by a few different collectors and card shops I could put cards into the penny sleeves and then into the extra pages I had until I decided if I wanted to grade cards or put them into something else. I was told it made removing the cards from the pages easier. If I decided to leave cards into the pages it's OK.

Oh ok. With the old style of 9 pockets, with the seams that ran all the way up, it was a pain. The new style though, there is an approximate 1/2" flap at the top, so it makes it easier to just open the top and slide it in...I'm glad it's not a preservation issue. I didn't want to have to pull out 1000s of cards to slide on a love glove for each.

I may try that with some vintage sets though.

Yes, I posted about this about a year ago. I used to be able to fit the penny sleeves into 9-pocket pages, and that no longer is the case. I was lucky enough to find a comic shop that was still selling the smaller versions for awhile, but that supply ran out. I used to put my Heritage card set in penny sleeves and then the binder pages, but now I can't do that.

One area where it is helpful is for the top three cards on each binder sheet. Sometimes the cards slip put there or have a tendency to collect dust from the top of the binder. The penny sleeves help protect from this happening.

I use the BCW penny sleeves and they seem to fit into both Ultra Pro and BCW 9-pocket pages fine.

Ironically and coincidentally, Lawnmowerman just IM'd me today with the exact same question regarding the Trojans with ridges.
