1960's Topps sub/insert Sets - Help me choose

I'd like to try to build one or more of the 1960's Topps insert/sub sets. Thoguht it would be fun to put together a couple of them as I've only collected the "main" issues. I'd like them to be somewhat challenging (i.e. not 1968 Topps Game or 1969 Topps Deckle), but not to expensive (say no more than $1k to complete in higher grade). I don't want to do posters or coins. Here's a few I had in mind:

1961 Topps Stamps
1962 Topps Stamps
1963 Topps Peel-Offs
1966 Topps Rub-Offs
1969 Topps Decals
1969 Topps Stamps

Which should I do? Anyone have any other suggestions, experiences or feedback? Thanks!

I have the Peel-offs, Rub-offs and Decals. Not 100% complete, but I think 2 are close. I have not looked at my raw stuff in a while, but since I had to sell most of my collection I am now focusing on my many less expensive raw items. I like the Peel-offs and Rub-offs the best. Let me know what you decide and maybe we can arrange a trade.

    Hi,

Here's a few others to consider:
1962 Topps Bucks (96 cards, loaded with HOFers, starts w/Aaron ... ends w/Yaz)
1964 Topps Stand-Ups (77 cards including 22 SPs, many HOFers)
1964 Topps Giants (60 cards including 7 SPs, w/30-35% HOFers)
1965 Topps Transfers (72 cards including 2 SPs, w/@30% HOFers)
1965 Topps Embossed (72 cards w/no SPs and lots of HOFers)
1967 Topps Who Am I (44 cards but only 4 are MLB players ... Ruth, Mantle, Mays, Koufax)
1969 Topps Supers (66 cards, no SPs, loaded with HOFers)

                  Thanks for the feedback.

Doug I'll definitely let you know - would be a nice way to start one of those.

Poppa - thank you for the additional suggestions. Maybe bucks would be cool to do. Stand-ups can get pretty pricey, can't they?

Mike - I guess I told a half-truth in my original post because I bought a set of Giants a few years ago. It's a pretty cool, definiltely affordable set. My hope was to compile a signed set. That Farrell's ridiculous signed though. But I agree - it's a good set.

The Clemente is tough to find a clean bold signature on also. One my favorties though.

Are you looking to do raw or graded?
'69 Deckle Edge is challenging in high-grade graded form. Centering kills you on many of these.

Stand-Ups is not going to happen in high grade for 1K.

I would suggest '65 Embossed as another possibility. They're not too plentiful, but you can get even most of the HOFers in PSA 7 for under $20. The drawback is that they're not very attractive.

                  Bert Campaneris
                  Bob Clemente

I think investment wise that 64 stand up is a good choice.I also think the cards are quite beautiful !
77 cards-single prints and plenty of stars.

1963 fleer set is also a cool set !

1962 topps baseball bucks are commonly found way off center and your going to pay a fortune for nice ones.
If I was doing the stamps I would go for panels not individal stamps.

How about putting together a bazooka set in single form? 36 cards -great photography and really a nice 60's vintage look.

also 69 nabisco or 68 sports illustrated poster are challenging sets to put together.

hoped this sparked some ideas for you

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback everyone - I really appreciate it.

Looks like I have lots of choices. Think I'll scour ebay for a few hours to get a feel for which sets make the most sense for me.

Alright, so I guess I've been convinced to alter my thought process a little. I really like the '64 Stand-ups. I think I'm just going to start with those. Seems like something I'll be able to tackle, though perhaps for a little more $ than I expected. But that's cool.

                  Let the buying begin!

                  Thanks again everybody.
