OT - WSU vs MSU Men's Basketball

As a few of you know, I have season tickets to Wichita State University's Men's Basketball, the local college where I was once a student. It is more of a charity thing then anything as to even buy my tickets every year I have to donate money to Say-So (msp?), their sports scholarship fund...that is not really a complaint...but it does make the tickets somewhat high when all is said and done. Besides attending the local games, I usually make a few road games. Last night, I was in Springfield, Mo., at MSU's new arena. Nice place, kinda of reminded me of Frank Lloyd Wright work. Roundish design with lots of glass.

Anyway, so last night I went to cheer on the 0-5 Shockers against the 0-5 MSU. While I did manage to get tickets directly behind the WSU bench...like I could stretch my feet and touch the area floor, and the dance/cheerleaders performed almost directly in front of me, and I could hear our coach cussing our the players, it was a bum night. Five minutes into the game were were down over 10 pts. and the coach benched the whole starting team. We didn't hustle down court, we didn't seem to try to hard for rebounds, we turned over the ball 12 to their 2 times in the first half alone. We lost and are now 0-6 in conference games and officially the worst team in the Missouri Valley Conference. Hard to imagine just a couple years ago we shocked everyone (we are the Shockers now) and made our way to the Sweet 16. So I am a little bummed today. Doesn't make it any better that we should also lose our Saturday game.

  • No one shares my pain any?

How about a "They will rebound in the second semester with a couple pick ups." or a "MSU is very underrated" or something like that which I likely will not believe.

I saw WSU and thought this was a Pac 10 thing... thought it was Washington State v. Montana State... and was hoping Montana didn't pull off the upset.

    Ditto. Still doesn't.
  • Well the Shockers managed to turn things around and set with a 15-14 record. A win against Southern Illinois Saturday would guarantee a winning season. Pretty good when you consider our start. Now we need to just keep it going, while making the 32 team NIT is likely out of reach....even if we were to win the valley, I could see us getting invited to the College Basketball Invitational.

And hey I can actually make this thread fit this forum.....At the game the basketball game the other night the women's baseball team was there and signed posters. Every player on the poster was present so that was cool....that never seems to happen. My brother also got me a signed men's baseball team poster this weekend for the team this coming season.

The Missouri Valley Conference tournament started this week. WSU, won its first game, against the same MSU I noted in the first postings, before losing yesterday 63-62 to Creighton. MVC Player of the Year Booker Woodfox made the game winning shot at the buzzer....looked like we had that one. At one time Creighton had a 47-25 lead, so it was almost an amazing comeback.
