Just picked up a Topps Sterling Jackie Robinson box!

I have been trying in vein to pick up one of these since they came out. With Jackie being one of the short print boxes (1 in 56) he is pretty tuff and people on ebay have been asking a lot for the boxes.
I was finally able to get one yesterday, and I think I did pretty good. So far about 10 have sold (ranging in price from $350 to $425). Well, yesterday one sold for $301 and then bout 30 minutes later another went off that I scooped for $265!
I had even made some offers on various boxes since these came out and was always rejected. (When they first came out I made an offer of $400, then on another box $350, and $300 on another!) Glad nobody accepted those offers!
Now comes the hard part. I plan on keeping it unopened for my collection. I have managed to keep a box of 89 Upper Deck unopened for the past 20 years!

<< <i>haha, good luck...the '89 UD doesn't have Jackie in it! There is a difference. >>
that is very true, but I did used to be a HUGE Griffey fan. At one point I had 19 UD Rookies, now i have about 5 with one being signed.
<< <i>You have to open it. There could be a 1/1 Robinson GU'd auto jersey. >>
Way to egg him on!!

<< <i> Wow, there is a lot of peer pressure on this board! >>
Consider yourself lucky that its not a football box. You might get a pm from Lawnmowerman like this,
<< <i>"you don't need any emmitt smith cards. you will send them to matt"
(jedi mind trick) >>
<< <i> I would open it and then display the cards in a semi circle around the opened box on a shelf in your glass display. >>
I think Nick is on to something. I would also like to add something...You could probably get a nice shadow box and display the box with the opened cards around it.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I agree, very true.
Plus I read somewhere in my many Dodgers books I have that one of Jackies greatest moments other than breaking the color barrier and beating the Yankees was seeing how happy the sports fans were when they opened up packs and received Jackie cards. No kidding, I really read that before.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I say let it RIP.
(rip it!)
<< <i>You could open it and webcam the break for your website. >>
Good plan.
