Heritage auction

Anybody pursuing any lots of interest in the Heritage auction? The austrian/german state lots have some impressive talers from the Grundy collection. The 2, 3, 5 and 6 taler lots are worth a peek just for entertainment.

It is not looking good at the moment... there is no joy in Mudville as we are likely going to be looking at Goose eggs again and its not for the lack of effort on my part

Still debating. I have my eye on a couple of pieces, but it seems like the reserves are placed a little high on a lot of things - or is it just me? It seemed to me there were a lot of lots with reserves set pretty close to the low estimate. It seems like there's usually a gap there.

I wonder who is buying? I have domestic issues at the moment and so am out of the picture, but the economy at some point is going to bite more people I would think. The Brtish is not to my liking, at least with regards to what I collect. I was tempted by some of the pennies, but will be content to look at the results...

but I can't help why a coin bought in May at a handsome price is being sold again now (at a loss I would imagine)

I won't be buying it.... Don't like the 'Millennia Collection' slab either, it should be attributed to Irving Goodman, its previous owner.

I went 0 for 8. Strong floor bidding was evident for Canadian coins. haven't done the math but it seemed that well over half of the lots went to the floor.

French coins had some pretty spirited bidding. The L'AN II 6 Livres NGC MS65--the piece I wanted to most--sold for a very strong price--way more than I was willing to bid. I picked up some other fairly cool pieces though.

I went 1 for 2 in the sede vacante taler lots. The final $750 hammer (without 15%) on lot #21139 was less than I anticipated. It is a MS-63 PCGS sede vacante taler from Fulda. lot 21139

I think I shelled out way too much for my other Fulda sede vacante piece, so I'll think of this as cost averaging.

The Gilt Halfpennies I bid on wound up going for 3-5 times the high estimate ($3-5k). I was willing to go to $2k, needless to say I didn't get any of them. I'd say that overall Heritage is doing ok, there are some items not selling with strong reserves, and some of the crowns seemed to go at reasonable prices. But the good stuff went for very strong money.

Well, I had hoped this florin would stay below $8k, but I really didn't think it had a CHANCE!!!!

Similar uber high grade 1/2 crown PORs have fetched well over $10k in the past few years, so this was about par for the course.

Mac, I've watched that part live online, and that Gothic florin was the coin with the most spirited bidding of the 250-300 lots that I've followed live, killer coin. Several lots remained unsold, others sold well below their low estimate,and only very few truly top class coins had a solid performance. It's a buyer's market and there were definetely bargains to be had, wcg congrats on a very nice purchase.

A loss indeed..... Sold for $1840 against $2530 previous sold price.

I bought a few inconsequential lots. The one piece I really wanted is this one, which I didn't get. Although you can't tell from the photo, the piece is fully proof-like. In fact, it was called a proof when sold as part of the Norweb collection. I've never seen another of its type anything like it.

A medal from Mexico, struck on blanks prepared for the 50 Pesos coins, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the constitution.

here's a coin I know nothing about, but bid aggressively (I thought) on it, only to lose. I think it is absolutely beautiful, and the description suggests it is uncommon.

the estimate had been somewhere in the order of $400-$600, but the final price ended up as $2760.00! Apparently a few other bidders thought it was a nice coin too!!!

Probably no surprise to those who know me, but I won the W9/8 cent. I also bought the 1931 FIC one centime, a very scarce piece in high grade.
