newbie submission question

How do you ensure your cards are slabbed regardless of grade on your submission forms?

I saw a few stating that if a card didn't make a certain grade you would have it slabbed auth.
This in regard to grading autos. i.e. if the auto'ed card doesn't grade say a 7 I'd like to just see it slabbed as auth. I'm assuming this would be a separate process?

Thanks

Grading companies aren't concerned with the insurance you choose, it's just to protect you and it's cheap security... I insure for what I paid PLUS additional value relative to the condition/rarity. Remember, Overinsurance=good, Underinsurance=dumb.

ex; I buy a raw1959 Mantle for $50, but it's at least a PSA 6. I'll insure the thing for at least $300 and always require a signature.

I can't find anywhere on my form where to request no qualifiers. Any help would be sweet.

I think he means that he wants to make sure that his cards are slabbed and not returned raw for any reason.

    Bingo. image

I know PSA will not slab "altered" for any reason, but trimmed or otherwise I'd be looking to have slabbed as authentic. Same with several autos I have where if possible if it doesn't meet a certain grade I could just have them slab the card as authentic.

    Any help is appreciated.
  • I asked a similar question recently, and I had some success. I contacted PSA and asked whether or not some of my prewar crossover cards could be slabbed Authentic if they were found to be altered, trimmed, miscut, et cetera. The gal explained to me that the request would be considered, although the grader would make the ultimate decision. Each card would be different, but I suspect that the rarity of the card and severity of the deficiency would be the key determinative factors.

It would be a request similar to that of a submitter asking that his/her cards be graded without qualifiers. And by similar, I mean only that you'd be making a specific request that may/may not be approved by the grader. Good luck to you.

  • You're right about the "altered" cards, bigjaco.

Ok; figured it would be a conversation with a PSA rep, but wasn't sure if I could just put something on my submission form. Thanks.
  • Point in fact, I did place a special request at the top of the submission form in bold type, and it read as follows: "PLEASE, CONSIDER AUTHENTICATING ANY CARD THAT FAILS TO ACHIEVE A NUMBER GRADE." Only one such card from my submission -- a friggen GAI '15 CJ -- fell under this category and it was slabbed "Authentic," per my request. That said, I'd give 'em a call first and then pitch the above suggestion to the associate. It couldn't hurt.
