1977 Topps Mexican Football - Need 1 Card to complete set

I have been collecting this set since February of this year. I am down to needing only one card to complete this set.

The last card I need is of course a member of the "Dirty Dozen" for this set........ #269 Archie Griffin

Looking for this card in any condition, raw or graded. Please email me if you can help me finish this very tough set. If you to prefer trading, I have a couple of hundred doubles I can move.

That is a heck of an accomplishment in any grade. Where did you get most of your cards, ebay? What is the overall condition?
  • I just opened a 4 card per pack box and didn't get a Griffin card.
  • It was a big challenge, and alot of fun along the way. I had stopped collecting in the early 90's and wanted to get back into the hobby, I chose this set due to the difficulty in trying to put together a set. (only 15 ish known sets?)

Condition.....my raw set varies drastically, I have a couple of real ugly ones right up to NrMT. 25% of my raw set also has the dreaded gum stains on either the front or back. My original goal was just to complete the set in any condition. That being said, I have also started a PSA Graded Set with a minimum grade of 7 with no qualifiers... I must be crazy, but I'm hooked..... I'm just under 25% complete with that.

I picked up quite a few on ebay, but also made a number of deals with collectors (without their help I would be no where near completion, a great bunch of guys), and even bought from 5 different sources in Mexico.

I was bidding on a 4-card box recently through Huggins & Scott Auctions.... I think it went for $1100! I was out at $800. I heard a rumor that the 4-card packs didnt contain any of the dirty dozen.

Ping, did you pull anything of note from that box?

  • It went for $900.00 + Juice, because I bought it. Lot of real nice cards but nothing big, 3 OJ cards. A lot of them are gradeable though.
  • All I want for for Christmas is.....

BTW, congrats Marcel. It'll be a great feeling when you've completed it, but then there's nothing left to look forward to. Maybe attack the 1951 Topps Feltback Set next... image
  • IMO the Topps Felt Set is much easier.

  • COMPLETE !!!

Made a deal over the weekend with a collector in Mexico to complete my set!!! I must say it feels pretty good.

Thanks for all the congrats, I would also like to thank all the collectors that helped me build this set, without them I would have gotten nowhere.

What's next? Well I will continue on my graded Mexican Set for sure, and I'm toying with the idea of trying to put together another raw set. I would take my time though, as I broke my collecting budget every month that I was working on my first set.

Scott, it is funny that we never made a deal.... but your website was a huge factor in getting me started on this set. Perhaps we can get something done in the future (I do have a number of PSA doubles now too)

    Cheers,

    Marcel

  • Scott has posted a few scans previously on these forums, including a sweet Walter Payton PSA 8! I'm not sure how to link to another posting, so I will just bump his post up and you can check them out right away. Note: It is located in the PSA forums. I think it also has a link to Scotts website. toppsmexican.com
