Ebay Search Function Question

I've been having a problem with Ebay searches lately, and I'm not sure if it's because I have Active-X controls turned on in my settings:

When I try to type words into the search box, every few seconds (or at any point when I pause in my typing as I'm thinking), I will lose control of the cursor while a box opens (below the search box) that tries to automatically fill in the rest of the search. I manually have to take the mouse and click back in the search box to re-locate the cursor to continue typing. Anyone else experience this? Is there an easy fix? It's extremely annoying to deal with.

  • It is Ebay trying to do a favor for you. After you click the search box move your curser to the top of the screen.

    Hi Brian,

If Mike's way didn't help you, try turning off "AutoComplete" (Windows XP, Vista).

    Open Internet Explorer.
Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
    Click the Content tab.
    Click the AutoComplete button.
Click to remove checkmarks from these items:
    Web addresses
    Forms
User names and passwords on forms
    Prompt me to save passwords
    Click the Clear Forms button.
    Click the Clear Passwords button.
    Click OK.

or, try this LINK to disable AutoComplete in Internet Explorer.

Poppa's method above might work, but the "problem" is
    an EBAY widget.

It is there to "make suggestions," because buyers obviously
don't know what they are looking for.

You can disable the widget, if you get your cursor in just the
right spot over the pop-up "suggestion box."

Click on the partially hidden box that says, "hide EBAY suggestions."

    ...........

OF all the bad stuff EBAY did in 2008, Best Match was by far the
    worst. It is a search that does NOT search for what buyers want;
only for what EBAY wants to pump.

The bad effects are FAR LESS visible in cards than they are in other
    categories.

Searches for "photoblocker and photo blocker" were returning "lockets,"
    yesterday.

BM also tracks what you have searched for in the past, and then
takes a guess at what you might be after this time. It's a disaster for
many buyers; that's why AMZN had such nice Christmas traffic.
