Just got some good poppage on signed rookies

I always love checking the submission status and getting some surprise poppage. They received this sub on December 17, so pretty quick turnaround considering the holidays.

I don't get my signed rookies with grades, I only get them authenticated. All 6 authentic. That makes me 87 for 87 so far on my signed rookies that I've sent them. image

Yep, I've got another 11 in right now under their $10.00 PSA/DNA special. They received those December 23 so probably be another week on those.

    Mike,

What a fantastic group of cards!

    Congrats!

Just curious ... Do you have a specific goal in mind? (ie. a certain number of rookies you're reaching for?)

    PoppaJ,

It originally just started with trying to get HOF signed rookies from the guys I admired watching while growing up. That proved to be a fairly quick endeavor, so I moved my target to be 1952 and up Topps HOF signed rookies. That is a difficult goal as I still need 1952 Wilhelm, 1952 Eddie Mathews, 1955 Clemente, 1963 Stargell and 1965 Hunter. I imagine those will come over time. However, I get bored while waiting for them to come along, and the economy has made the prices for most of the cards quite reasonable, so I've just continued to pick up HOF'ers and legends from other sports as well as pre-1952. I'm finding it to be a buyers market right now and I know that won't always be the case, so I'm trying to pick up all I can now, before the economy turns around and people can demand higher prices for their cards. I don't want to miss someone relatively easy now that might die soon and then will become difficult such as the case with the 63 Stargell and 65 Hunter. Thus, I'm knocking out the guys like Musial, Berra, Feller, etc. while they are still alive and easy.

  • Great authentic cards. Did you send them to PSA under the $20.00 autographed card deal?

Thanks, no, these are my 6 freebies using my membership voucher. They did me a special favor by allowing me to use the voucher for these autographed cards as they really do have great customer service as long as you treat them well. I explained to them that the only reason I joined the club was to be able to sub in autographed cards as I don't collect unsigned ones. I explained that I had just gotten through subbing a 93 card order, and I would really appreciate it if they would waive their rules for me for one time. I told them if they wouldn't let me that it would be ok but I'd appreciate it greatly if they would. I offered them that I would be wiling to do a 2 for 1 deal, meaning that if they would let me use the 6 card voucher, for 3 autographs, that it would be superb. However, Carolj went to bat for me and got it worked out for me to get all 6 done.

Sounds like you've got your ducks in a row! I wish you the best and hope you find many more soon.

If I ever come across any that you need, I'll be sure to let you know.

    Good luck .... Great project!

are you better off not getting cards graded when the autos are authenticated???? just asking since I recently sent in 50 cards under the $10 special and asked to have them graded along with authentication.
