Was this a decent price on a 1957 Topps Bob Cousy rookie?

I just picked this up via best offer on ebay for $200.01. I've already bought it, but just wondering how I did comparitively to market for this card. I don't have VCP, but it'd be hard to price anyway because of the O/C qualifier. I'm going to crack it out to get it autographed for my HOF signed rookie collection so it doesn't really matter, but just wanted to see what y'alls opinions were on the price. Did I do "good", "bad" or "just about right"? Cousy will sign via mail for $35.00 so by the time I get through, I'll have about $250.00 in to the signed version and I'll be satisfied with that.

  • Nice pu of the Houdini of the Hardwood.

His MVP year as well! I'd love to have it, even if a little o/c!

You didn't do bad or anything Mike, but you probably could have done a better centered 5-like quality card fr $150 or so if you wanted. I bought this one raw for $120.

The OC qualifer knocks it down two grades, so you would be looking at the VCP average for a 5, which is $165....that is what I would have priced it at.....so.....you got burned a little bit.

And that's really all that matters. Nice pickup Mike.

Anyone know if he'll sign it "Houdini of the Hardwood, Bob Cousy" if asked? That might be a lot to fit on the card, but I'm going to ask him to sign it like that. I've had mixed success asking for special inscriptions. Stan Musial denied me, Fergie Jenkins and Whitey Ford oblidged me. I should find out if Berra did in a few days as he cashed my check last Monday so hopefully the card will come back signed soon.

Thought you were doing rookie cards? Isn't the 1951 Berk Ross his "true" rookie? Although it is in his Holy Cross uniform.

Yeah I saw those panel cards, but decided to do the Topps version instead. Seemed to be a lot more economical as well as being generally accepted as a "rookie".

I'd go with the Celt's card too, just playing Devil's advocate.
