  • I'm of no help, but your name (vezinaautowanted) is almost impossible to comprehend. Good luck to you, but I wish me even better luck.

Just what exactly is a vezina anyway? It sounds like an alcholic beverage

    It's a city in Italy.
  • I doubt you would receive the same grade from PSA or BGS. GAI? Too many questions/concerns about them for me. If a card is not PSA, BGS, or SGC holdered, I would steer clear of it. JMHO.
  • Hi,

A friend of mine purchased over a dozen CSA graded cards at a local card show earlier this year.

There were a couple Mantles, a few 51 Bowman commons, and if my memory serves me well, the rest were 59 Fleers.

I helped him crack them out and then subbed them to PSA.

Not only did they all get graded, but most of them came back with equal or higher grades.

I've never dealt with CSA personally, and I probably would have tried to talk him out of buying the CSAs had I been there.

Maybe he got lucky? I have no idea. But I was impressed.

If you should decide to send yours in to PSA or wherever, it's usually best to crack them out 1st.

Good luck whichever route you take!

    PoppaJ,
I bought some CSA and USA graded cards years ago. I still have many of them. The older the cases, the happier I am with the grades. I have a Jim Thorpe All American CSA 6 and a bunch of Star early basketball cards graded by USA. I am very pleased with their condition and they all seem to measure up, literally... I don't buy the uncommon grading company cards now, and I likely will cross them over at some point, but some of the older CSA and USA stuff does okay by me. I had a few more recent CSA cards and they certainly appear trimmed. I'd stay away from the newer graded stuff by the off grade companies, but I'm happy with the older stuff I had purchased.

It depends on what CSA cert you have, the newer ones seem to have trouble while the older ones
    usually are graded decently.

    Good for you.

    Hi Michael,

I'm not sure if the CSAs my friend bought had the old cases or new cases, and personally I have my reservations about anything holdered in something other than a PSA, SGC, or BGS.

He had already purchased them, so I couldn't talk him out of them. That's when I suggested to him that we crack and sub them to PSA to find out if they were okay or not. Apparently, they must have been the older CSA cases.

Great to hear that you had some success with them too.

That 55 All-American Thorpe card is one of my son's favorites. image

Does anyone know what CSA numbers are "OLD" and what ones are "NEW"? Do you have an approximate "cutoff" number that you would use IF you were looking at a card graded by CSA?

  • vezina or should I say he full name of georges vezina who is considered to be the grandfather of goaltenders. I seems that some csa cards recieve the same price premium as gai cards.
