Check out what just arrived for Christmas Eve! A 2007 Topps Santa Claus set!

2007 Topps Santa Claus set

I guess I am kinda late pointing this out, but if you don't mind getting it a few days after Christmas, this is a fantastic set to get. I just got mine today and the cards tell you all about the history of Santa (and even Mrs. Claus) and his reindeer. 16 of the cards are done in these classic Topps designs:

1952, 1953, 1955, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1968, 1973, 1975, 1978, 1981, 1987, 1988, 1993, 2001, 2007
Plus you get an autographed Santa card as well as game used memorbilia type one with a piece of Santa's suit!

I would strongly recommend this set if you don't have it already. I just wish I also had that Upper Deck "Kris Kringle Holiday Worn Jersey" card as well as the Beckett graded Santa cards from way back too! image

  • do the mention any real history?

    Early Christian origins

A medieval fresco depicting St Nicholas from the Boyana Church, near Sofia, BulgariaSaint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He was a 4th-century Greek Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey.

Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity. In Europe (more precisely the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Germany) he is still portrayed as a bearded bishop in canonical robes.

In 1087, the Italian city of Bari, wanting to enter the profitable pilgrimage industry of the times, mounted an expedition to locate the tomb of the Christian Saint and procure the remains. The reliquary of St. Nicholas was desecrated by Italian sailors and the spoils, including his relics, taken to Bari[8][9] where they are kept to this day.

A basilica was constructed the same year to store the loot and the area became a pilgrimage site for the devout, thus justifying the economic cost of the expedition. Saint Nicholas became claimed as a patron saint of many diverse groups, from archers and children to pawnbrokers.[10] He is also the patron saint of both Amsterdam and Moscow.[11]

The 1959 card does show a brief history of St. Nick. And the 1993 card is dedicated to Mrs. Claus.

Since I bought this set last year I have been picking up Santa cards here and there as I see them. In addition to Proset in 1994 all the major football card manufacturers put together a Santa promo set. All cards feature Santa except Skybox which had Jim Kelly(WTF Its a Santa set!).
