And were in a supposed recession!

So I just got hammered on a 1975 Robin Yount PSA 9. VCP on this card in PSA 9 grade is $533. I bid $637 and get absolutely hammered with auction ending on this card at a hefty $787.77. One more example that this recession is not touching those that have extra money to spend. If someone would be so kind to add Link, I would greatly appreciate it.

It wasn't even Dave Bailey bidding on it. All of his bidding over the last year+ has really driven up the price, though.
I thought I was overbidding at $450.

The real bad news is that there is becoming a bigger spread between them that has and them that don't. The future is looking very dismal for many.
I have many friends that made a killing on real estate over the last 10 years and got out before the doom. They are living a very comfortable life at this time and waiting for another year or two at least before picking the scraps from many carcasses that will be left littering the cities of our country.

No more huge PSA vintage sets for me. I'm building lower grade low-budget raw vintage sets now, and I have drasticly slowed that down. I can see having to put this hobby on hold if things don't get better.

I was watching that as well. Very frustrating and confusing. Just months ago I thought $450 was pricey; lost out then too. They are our there though; gotta have patience... that's what I tell myself thou. I don't think it's working.
<< <i> I suggest you do some homework before purchasing hi grade cards from South Florida. >>
Didnt realize that NO WAY DUDE was affliated with Andy Tuttle. I am very familier with the stuff that those guys are doing, and will never purchase a high dollar card from Andy and his multitude of EBAY user names. I have purchased low dollar cards from Andy to fill registries though. He has been a decent source of 1986-87 Fleer basketball. Just need to make sure the stuff your buying are actual PSA 9 quality cards. Sometimes he gets generous grades.
I am doing my best to stay off EBAY and buy from board members. Most are great sources for the cards I need and the buying experience is so much more pleasureable.

<< <i>The card being discussed in this thread is tilted or is it my eyes?
Steve >>
There is a very slight tilt. I think the way the card is sitting in the slab makes it look a little worse than it is, though.
"One more example that this recession is not touching those that have extra money to spend." That sounds like Yogi-ism.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

I think that even with the card being sitting tilted in the holder it has a bad tilt.
<< <i>The recession is a myth perpetuated by our government. I am a realtor that should be suffering through this current economic and credit "crisis". Plus, December is usually a down time for me. This year, I have had the best December I have ever had. Economy must not be too bad. Why I am telling you this? I have no idea. Bud Light is controlling my thoughts.

There are always anomalies, just because one Realtor is doing good, doesnt make the economy ok.

RIP GURU
immediate future is not good, which reflects the broader economy. I have sold the past three years
and this holiday season was scary low. Granted, I sell mostly post-1980 RCs and SLU figures.
Buy what you enjoy collecting and if you get caught too much in the investment stuff, you will not like the
results.
When the dust settles, I just hope that all the key players in the hobby are still around. We still need
card manufacturers, PSA/BGS/???, and above all, collectors.
Happy Holidays.

<< <i>im putting most expensive purchses now on hold.Ill make a few small purchases though.Ive stopped buying hoards of new boxes and am just trading.I guess in some places there isnt a recession but in LA there is.My brother in law works at the la times and they are constantly laying off people the last few years, cutting lunch times etc >>
The recession may be "fake" in parts of the country, but I agree it has hit SoCal pretty hard. The last round of layoffs hit the mid to upper level management at my company pretty hard. I doubt many realtors are doing all that well here either with the drop in home sales. The economy here is very diverse, but everyone is getting hit.
I don't buy many cards right now, just spending more time on the cards I have. I have to admit that there are some pretty sweet deals out there, but I still think the market will drop significantly more before prices rise again. Cash is king right now, no one wants hard assets.
Why is that always the case, except for the sets that I'm working on?
