Old Beatles production card

Sorry guys, but I do not have a scan as of right now due to my being a quadriplegic and not having somebody to help scan it, but if necessary I will get a scan for you. I recently acquired a b&w card of the beatles with a blank back that has comments regarding the contrast of the card and REJECT written on the bottom. To me it looks as if it belongs in the 1st-3rd series of their b&w set, but this particular card never made it into either of those sets. The woman that gave it to me said that a friend of hers pulled it from the trash of the factory amongst other reject cards back in the '60s. The photo on the front has all 4 Beatles sitting/standing on the sidewalk by a table. There is a telephone on the table with a sign hanging from the edge saying "you can use the telephone here". It is b&w as previously stated, and there is no facsimile autoggraph which appears on the 1st-3rd series cards. Heck... for all I know it may be a production card from the newer Beatles card set, though I seriously doubt it. Do you think that PSA would grade such an anomaly, and do ANY of you think that it may have some value? It is in nice shape, and being a productiion card I'm sure it's destined to have writing on the back. I'm going to do a google image search to see if I can at least find the photo on the front for you.... D'oh! Guess I'll have to scan it. Thanks

Interesting pic - my humble opinion is that no one would grade it.
There are also a lot of reprints of the B&W cards with various colors on the back.
Hard to tell what you have.
Not that I'm a skeptic, but why would someone rescue a card or cards from a factory trash can, hold onto it or them for 45 years and then give it to you?
    I guess I am a skepticimage

    Hello to All ,

    Hi Mark (MorellMan) ,

the simple reason people would take cards or uncut sheets from the trash is that one day they might be worth money .

The b/w cards below were ' rescued ' from the trash cans because of errors in the printing process and the person that ' liberated ' them thought that one day they might be worth a £/$ or 2 .

In fact many of the recent mint Barratt ' Walt Disney Characters 2nd ' sets were cut from sheets that were dumped in the trash cans at the printers and stored for many years until the ' owner ' sold them on for a little profit .

Yup - I'm still a skeptic. Why would someone write "Don't use" and then throw it away? Sounds a little too contrived for my belief.

  • Hello to All ,

    Hi Mark ,

Maybe a production manager or quality control had lots of cards to look through and just scribbled on the back ' Do not Use '

If it had been of use it wouldn't of ended up in the bin .

It might be just a Beatles photo with no connection to cards .

  • Hello to All ,

The ' you may telephone ' shot was used by Parlaphone records for a promo poster so the ' photo/card ' might not have any connection with any Beatles cards issued by Topps .

It might be a reject from the photo shoot etc .

I don't think PSA grades these type of items but i'm sure theres someone out there who can authenticate(sp) it for you .

  • It IS an actual card from the "hard days night" set; After some digging I found the copy of the "real" card. #36 or 38 I'm pretty sure.

So now there's NO doubt that my production card came from a Topps set

I am the 3rd pwner of this card. I did a HUGE favor for the woman that gave it to me (she's in her '50s), and she told me how her fathers friend scooped them frpm the trash & gave her a handfull... back in the '60s
