Very strange bid history, but a nice flip for a profit of $390 in just 19 days

It seems like a great flip for the seller just 19 days after buying it, but the bid history on the $475 card seems very odd.

Nov. 5th bought for $85

Nov. 24th sold for $475

Edited to fix the links.

Links are now correct, sorry about that.
  • How the hell did the last bid go from $85 to $475?
  • Nice profit margin. Could be two registry buyers bidding against each other.

I've bought from that seller before. Never had any issues with them.

<< <i>How the hell did the last bid go from $85 to $475? >>

    That's my question.

I understand sometimes two guys fight it out, but in this case I don't see where the under bidder was fighting.

    Maybe the reserve was $475?

    Hey, it's worth it.

I believe that was the case.

Here's what it says on the bidding history page:

    1975 Topps AL Championship #459 PSA 9 MINT 0 HIGHER 1/8

    Winning bid: US $475.00

    Reserve met

Weird since the 11/5 auction ran full term. You'd think anybody willing to drop 5 bills on that card would have thrown in a bid or two the first go-round.

Absolutely true. Hard to imagine but maybe it just fell through the cracks.

  • I had a card do that a few years ago. Texas sports cards ended paying over $250 for a psa 8 1956 common that should have sold $40+/-. I asked why so much. They said that when they have a customer that needs a card badly, like that common, they will throw down a last minute bid that would surely make them the winner. In this case they bid $250, problem is, that is another person uses that same logic the card goes sky high for no real reason. I am betting two people threw in bids on this card using that same logic. Just my guess, but it did happen like that to me.

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa me too- buy something for 500$ , sell for 85$ down the road , im cursed in reverseimage
  • $10 says it was spence. Up until recently you could check his progress out; can't anymore.

I've pretty much decided to stop rare commons in 75s till he's 100% done with them.

Mike (easy) two people did not throw down all out bids in that auction. The under bidder was at 85.00

The winner had to meet the reserve. The seller knew that he had set a reserve that would ensure him a decent profit.

I'm just surprised that the winner here did not see it 2 weeks ago (or whenever) when it sold for 75.00.

Pays to know your markets that is for sure. Unlike guys who take wild stabs in the dark, that guy knew what he was
    doing.

While it does not have a "D" in the name it is s***s the feedback number matches Spence (3529)

IMO what happened was the seller notified Spence That he would be auctioning a card he needed and bammmm

    475.00
