It looks like the variation from the scan.

Very few examples have traded -- depends on how many whales go after the card, and the condition of yours, unfortunately, is not very good. I would guess you could get $100-$200 for it, but it really depends....very thin market of people willing to pay a premium for this...good luck

I'm by no means an expert on the yellow variation but wouldn't the red also be missing in the banner?
Or did the red only miss at the top of the card? Con40 would know the answer.

I did see 2 or 3 years ago a raw Stanley sell for some crazy moon money to Olbermann, I think 2k?

If it was mine I'd get it graded/authenticated.

    Good luck!

I accidentally stumbled on a thread on here a few days ago. It mentioned Olbermann paying $1000+ for one but I dont remember the thread or keywords etc. It was a old thread and about cards from the 80's in yellow, someone mentioned the whole sheet is probally like that and there have been 3 different cards found. I thought it was fb though. One poster mentioned it wont have player X as he was on another sheet and he was the big RC. The name was not a baseball player. Could be wrong. Maybe there was yellow name errors in baseball and fb. Most likely, as the "big name" was not baseball.

Sorry I cannot be of much help.

There are 4 confirmed Yellow name variation cards in the 1980 Topps baseball set. I have no idea of value but PM and I can get you some emails of those who probally do.

Isn't that just some sort of staining across the top portion of the card? Note that the bottom part of the position banner is the proper shade of blue. And aren't there some flecks of red in the name? Like the M, Q and U most prominently. What does the back of the card look like?

I was under the impression that 3 cards were like this. Wathan, Stanley and Pouquette.

Bob from this board may be able to help more.

It is definitively rare, but there is a very thin market of buyers willing to pay significant premiums for this variation...

    good luck either way.

  • Variations164 Greg Pryor has two variations of his card which are known to appear in this set, the first is an extremely scarce variation (#164a) where his name does not appear on the card face, the common issue variation card found in this set (#164b) has his name printed in blue ink.
387 - Fred Stanley has two variations of his card which are known to appear in this set, the first is an extremely scarce variation (#387a) where his name is printed in yellow ink, the common issue variation card found in this set (#387b) has his name printed in red ink.
424 - The Yankees switched managers just prior to the 1980 season thus Dick Howser appears on most cards while Billy Martin shows up on a few. The Martin card is very rare unissued version.

milbroco, i'm 99% sure that Henderson was just sitting in a window display or a dealers flea market case too long and faded due to sun exposure..
