Amazing customer service from this Ebay seller.

I recently purchased a raw NearMint set of 1965 Topps from ebay seller 4thelovofcards. In the listing he depicted the Mantle card as having a speck of dust that could probably be removed. He also described the Tony Perez rookie as being NM. Upon receiving the set I noticed that the spot on the Mantle which I have scanned and put in some other threads on here, is actually a slight print defect. The Perez Rookie has a slight paper loss around the top edge on the back of the card. Otherwise, the two cards are NM+.
Anyway, I emailed the seller describing the cards and sent scans. He emailed me back and is sending me a $200 refund for the slight misgrading. I highly recomend this very honest and fair seller.

Good stories aren't as common as the "he took my money and sent crap" stories. +1 for the good guys.
NM 1965 Topps Set
I'm glad that you're happy with this seller, however, take it from someone who's been around the block a few times ....
Sometimes a seller doesn't disclose everything they should or could and then gets a price a lot higher than they expected/deserved. Then, the buyer complains and voila ... a $200 refund is offered and taken as a kind gesture and great customer service.
What I'm trying to say is that you should consider if this seller is really giving amazing customer service or just trying to sheepishly disguise the fact that his assessment of grades of this set was a bit off, and wanted to avoid a negative/neutral.
I really believe that he would have taken any possible 8s or 9s out of the set for grading, if otherwise.
Please understand, if you're happy that's all that matters. Who knows, maybe he is an upright person and had no intentions of misrepresentation.
I'm not trying to pick on you or even judge your decision; I'm just giving you something to ponder from a different angle.
It's kind of interesting to see that this happened after all the close predictions by others from your Original Post.
Again, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase.

Did you look at the scans I put up in the other thread? The set averages NM and with the refund I have less than 2 grand in the set. If you can get me some more '65 sets for 2 grand in NM condition then I will take them all.
Nice to hear about satisfied buyers of raw material on ebay!

Hi Tommy,
I did see the cards, but these old eyes aren't as sharp as they once were.
I hope those cards all come back 8s or 9s for you.
No need to get defensive, I'm on your side
I was really just questioning the seller's true intent of the $200 refund from a different angle.
Just be sure to post a few pics when you get the cards back from the grader, as I'm sure many of the younger guys of the board will be more interested than I.
Good luck,
PoppaJ
something.
To be honest, I'd rather the 66 set then the 65 set any day of the week. The 66 set is much more scarce then the 65.
Those high numbers are a beast, I think (and this has been debated before) that they are harder to find then the 61's.
After I sold off my PSA graded 65 set I finished my 66 set raw with some of the proceeds. I still have it.

wasn't getting defensive poppa. You are one of my favorite posters. I just try to look at the positive side of people, especially since its close to Christmas. I guess I've never really been screwed on ebay and this is the third raw set I've bought and I made decent money the other two times and the sellers were pretty accurate in their grading.
I try to list my stuff with accurate grading also and have 100% feedback. With that being said, of course sellers are gonna highlight the best attributes of their stuff and downplay the lowlights but that is just part of it.
Unless the guy got the set from some old lady that had it in an attic and had no idea what it was worth, I would imagine that the $200 refund was pretty significant when it came to his profit.
Yup, now the guy prolly lost on that deal.

I'm not that familiar with the '66 set but it looks like the value is greater than the '65. I just don't like the looks of the cards, lol. The '61 set is by far my favorite. I guess it's because I spent the most time on that set spanning several years in which I was out of collecting and picked back up recently. I also liked getting to know the low pop high numbers and better cards.
Its just as much about the fun aspect to me as it is about making money. I love sending in vintage cards and waiting on the grades to pop. I also love buying raw stuff at a good buy and then getting it and its even better than expected, which most people have told me is a rarity. I bought a raw '61 Yaz for $35 and it got an 8.5. I sold it for almost $300.

I doubt he lost on the deal, but he couldn't have made a lot.
Or he could have gotten it from a friend who got it from a deceased cousin and they both split the gross.
That has happened before too.

Now I guess the seller listed these after the auction for the set. I didn't check to see if he had any cards listed like this before, but frankly it is obvious he's experienced with baseball cards. So why should it be expected that he's going to sell a set of cards and leave money on the table when he is already familiar with grading companies. Hope I'm wrong but I just have the feeling that the submission is gonna be mostly 6's and 7's and not 8's or 9's.
