    echecks suck

Had a guy send me one once and it took about a month to clear. Others have taken a week or 2. Others have taken a few days

never paid with one though. Shouldn't be a reason to. Paypal can now instant transfer from your checking account. I believe that's the same idea as the e-check

Transfer from your checking account has to have a back up funding source like a credit card for instant payments. If not, it makes the buyer pay with echeck. I have received them, and they have cleared in 5-7 days max.

my back up funding is my debit card that links to the same account

Shouldn't be writing checks if you don't have the funds to cover it in your paypal or checking account anyway image Guess an e-check lets you play "chase the check".

Yep, you're right. If funds are that starved, a person might want to do other things than buy cards. image

P.S. True, debit or credit card will work as backup source.

The guy that took a month to clear had the dates keep changing as to when it would clear.
After It cleared, I blocked him and he bought something else under a different ID and did the same e-check crap but it only took a couple weeks. And that was after he waited 2 weeks before even sending the e-check - blocked again

Not a problem, never had an echeck take more than a week to clear!

    100% of buyer' echecks cleared!

I've taken at least a hundred PayPal e-checks. Every one cleared my bank in 3 - 4 days on the button. Never had a single problem.

Paypal only takes $5 on an eCheck transaction vs. the standard 2.9% on others. Large transactions where you trust the person you are dealing with, this is a nice thing.
