Counterfeit baseball cards on eBay question

Hi.

A collector friend of mine just called and asked me to look at the items sold by this seller on eBay and see what I thought of them:

eBay Link

I have a 1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams reprint so I looked at that card first and saw that it looked like their was some tampering going on with the bottom left hand corner of the back of the card where 'reprint' would have been printed. That and along with the general odd picture taking and uneven wear/color on the backs of many of the cards, I told him that most likely all of these are fakes, though I'm not an expert on altering cards.

I was wondering if official reprints have been made of all of these cards? I do find it odd that one would spend the time to alter a 1933 Goudey common, even though I know a reprint card does exist. I do know when you see something like this on eBay that most likely it's too good to be true.

Anybody have some other evidence I could give my friend to convince him not to bid on any of these?

Uhmm the seller clearly states in the description that the cards are reprints.

In every auction the "REPRINT CARD" is clearly shown.

Not sure what else this seller needs to do above that, possibly say "Reprint" in the title?

Tell your friend to read the entire description.

Not Counterfeits, Those cards are "doctored reprints" (Big difference)

A reprint has an obvious design change in the manufacturing process, usually the photo area has been cropped and a new border (and caption if it falls within the border) has to be designed.
In the case of the Wilson Franks Williams card The new border is obvious since the authentic cards will be all white (border and background are the same).

All the cards are garbage and completely worthless. A basic "dumb high school kid wanna go to county jail soon" scam, and anyone who bids deserves it!

edited to add, even if the auctions DIDN'T say "REPRINT" it is extremely easy to see they are.
  • Everyone - thanks for the replies and for the corroboration.

My friend saw the 'reprint' in the descriptions, but thought maybe the buyer was in error or something since they looked 'authentic'

I'm surprised people still place bids on them - maybe the want to do some future scamming.
