Hello,

Does anyone know where the site wandered off to? I get this when I try to access it:

------------------------------------------

Welcome

You see this page because there is no Web site at this address.

What you can do:

* Create domains and set up Web hosting using Parallels Plesk Control Panel.
* Use Parallels Plesk Control Panel with Parallels Virtuozzo Containers and create isolated domains. Using a number of virtual servers with Parallels Plesk Control Panel on a single machine allows for flexible management of your server's resources.

Help?!?
Bob

i just checked it and you're right - They either went out of business or if that doesn't make sense, they simply forgot to pay their domain renewal fee - once they pay the fee, the website would be back up again in minutes.

That's my best guess too. Hopefully.... image

Domain's registered through 2010 according to WhoIs. Probably just a server error.

I get the same error....I surely hope Bobby is not taking the money and flying the coop!

Also a distinct possibility of not paying the server fees which it appears to be what it is based on that type of "error message"

Again...once the fees are paid with a credit card, the site will be back up in minutes.

I'm sure that's true, but man that shouldn't even be a possibility for a site that so many people here pay for.

You're right - and these website servers always give plenty of notice, multiple times, about expiration dates...no excuses. And especially since server cost is relatively inexpensive - just briefly looking at that site through the Google cache, they're probably paying a server around $10 a month, maybe a little bit more.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 30,280 ✭✭✭✭✭
They also risk someone grabbing the domain name although just because the name expired doesn't mean it can be grabbed immediately - if I'm remembering right, it's about a 60 or 90 day grace period before somebody can grab the name, and even then if there are multiple applicants, the "winner" gets drawn out of a hat, so to speak.

I cant believe its still down....that is his livelihood!
  • Nothing as dramatic as you all want it to be....we finished transferring all the images from one of our servers to consolidate it. We needed to redirect the DNS for that server and when that happened is when the site went down for a few minutes, Sorry for the inconvenience.

I don't think users expecting the site to work is being dramatic.

Still down. That's a lot of few-minuteses (should be a word).
  • I have been on all morning without any problems...

I think VCP is a great service, but other than the $3.99 "one-time" use tier, I feel the service is priced too high.

I don't get the impression that they want to gouge people, though. I get the impression that they work tirelessly and feel they should be compensated accordingly. That's fine, although my perception is that if they invested more in automation (ie software) that perhaps they could streamline things and not have to do so much manual intervention. The more you can reduce human work, the less the costs will be in the long run.

I also get the impression, though, that they are well aware of how better software could help them, so I'm not telling them anything they don't already know.

You can nitpick a lot about VCP, but it provides a great service and the owner stands up and at least faces the criticism. People pay Ebay tons more per month to sell, and when was the last time the CEO personally responded to any of your criticisms. The executives at Ebay don't even know you're alive.

OK...if you cleared your cache and it still didn't work do this. I assume you were using Internet Exploer as your browser. Do a search for Firefox and download this browser and then put in their web address and it should work fine.

  • let me get this straight...
I pay a monthly service and I have to download another bowser to use a service I pay for...

    No thanks..
I am just going to cancel.... enough is enough

Yes, it is working fine now.

I highly recommend Firefox if you're got an older computer - it works better and you'll have less crashes. I recently bought a new HP Vista computer, and it's a beast - love it and all browsers work well...but on my older Millennium Edition computer Firefox was superior to Internet Explorer. Firefox is absolutely free, easy to download and easy to use - there's no spam or adware with it or anything like that.
