Need some help finding a holiday gift for a nephew (with giveaway)

So, I have a nephew that's 10 years old and I just found out that he's a big Dallas Cowboys fan. What can I get a 10 year old Dallas Cowboys fan? I don't think he knows anything about cards or probably collectibles in general so I'm afraid to get something too nice (like a HOFer auto). I also have a budget of like $20 - $40. Any thoughts? Maybe a low end HOFer auto card would be a good start to a collection though? Maybe a large lot of low $ Cowboys cards? I'm a bit lost on kids gifts...

Thanks in advance.

And to whomever first comes up with what I end up buying will receive a random gift from me as well.

I would start with a bunch of low dollar current Cowboy's player cards. Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, Marion Barber, Jason Witten.....

I think kids now would like current players and as they mature into the hobby, they can then get into the older players like Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.

Anything with the Dallas Cowboy Chearleaders on it...
  • I agree mostly with what Matt said. I would think adding game-used cards and current player autos would make it that much better. I would think that children would like shiny new cards as opposed to older cards because they actually see those players on the field too.

You can pick up McFarlane Cowboys figures for about $12 each. I know there is a Romo out right now as well as a Demarcus Ware. Plus there are older Cowboys figures you can still find. As a matter of fact, I am giving a friends 9 year old some Red Sox and Patriots McFarlane figures along with some cards for Christmas.

He might like to watch some Cowboys history DVDs and then maybe spend the rest on a Cowboys hat for him to wear.

Show him some of your collection to see if he's even interested in cards, then if he shows interest you can take him to a show now and then.

Fatheads are awesome, even to this 25 year old, and kids love them. They're expensive though.

However, there is an offbrand (Wallsups) sold on eBay made from the exact same materials...LINK

Straighten him out earlier and get him a bunch of Eagles gear!!
HOw about a hat or jersey? Walmart has them for under $20 I think.
  • I'd like to straighten him out and get him some Broncos stuff... but his dad is also a Cowboys fan.

This looks good but I don't like the BIN price.

    3000 Cowboys Cards

A cap and jersey is probably a good idea too.

Thanks so far guys! Anymore ideas?

What about a Sports Illustrated Cover from the Sports Illustrated site. Those are pretty cool and I do not think they are more than $20. Art.com always has cool pictures and posters too. Link

  • jimq112 wins with the History DVDs. I think that'll be something nice that he and his dad can share.

lawnmowerman and mphilking come in second because he's going to be getting a stack of random cards that I can collect over the next few weeks (thanks for solidifying the idea Matt and thanks for the start mphilking!)

all 3 of you guys PM me your address and I'll get something sent out to you. I'm freakin slow when it comes to shipping but I'll try to get this out ASAP (I still have a pile of stuff for zep sitting here... wow I need to get that sent out! I suck).

  • I do believe your 10-year-old nephew would enjoy a #28 Minnesota Vikings jersey.

    Preferably the throwback variety.
